| Description | Hatchment inscribed "G.W. Poley, died April 10 1780". Incorrectly, it has a white background, not black. For George Weller Poley (1710-1780), born "George Weller", son of Robert Weller (d.1751) of Tunbridge by his wife Elizabeth Poley (d.1761), daughter and heiress of Thomas Poley (born 1642) of Boxted Hall. He adopted the additional surname of Poley. He married Frances Hussey (d.1796), a daughter of Thomas Hussey of Burwash, Sussex. His son and heir was Rev. John Weller Poley (1755-1799) of Boxted Hall, whose hatchment is in the same church. (Source: Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed. Pirie-Gordon, H., London, 1937, p.1825, but with date of death 1788 not 1780, as inscribed on hatchment frame). Arms: Poley (Or a lion rampant sable) quartering Weller (Sable, two chevrons between three roses argent) (arms granted by Sir Edward Bysshe (d.1679), Garter King of Arms, to Rev.
