Tomb with the reliquary of St. Lantpert, Bishop of Freising, in the crypt of Freising Cathedral

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The reliquary was donated in 1973 by Julius Cardinal Döpfner on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as bishop. The relics had been collected by Bishop Joseph Ludwig von Welden (1769–1788) and initially kept in a simple glass shrine. The reliquary was designed by the Nuremberg sculptor Prof. Erhard Hößl, as was the tomb complex with the wrought-iron grille. The painting embedded in the back wall shows the animal symbol of Lantpert, the lamb, and the four evangelists. On the arch field above, Lantpert begs the fog miracle to save his cathedral from the Huns. The painting was created by the Schleissheim painter O. Hupp in 1901.
