Summary
[edit]DescriptionHarringworth Station (geograph 6655425).jpg |
English: Harringworth Station Harringworth Station was opened by the Midland Railway on 1 March 1880 on the Kettering - Melton Mowbray - Nottingham line that provided an alternative route to the latter city away from the main line through Leicester. Local traffic was not huge and the then-young British Railways closed the station from 1 November 1948, though expresses continued to run past. Immediately north of the station the line crossed the River Welland from Northamptonshire into Rutland on a viaduct of 82 arches. At the time of my visit the signalman warmed me to stay clear of the station house on account of a noisy and aggressive canine occupant. |
