Summary
[edit]DescriptionHandheldfly-4105.jpg |
This is a hand-held shot. I used my 430ex (high speed setting) coupled with a flash bracket that enabled me to position the flash closer to the subject. The bracket helps to steady the camera a bit too. I also have my camera on continuous high-speed mode so burst would increase my overall chances of capturing a decent photo. As far as getting the background black, that has much to do with using the manual mode on the 30D. I can adjust exposure and aperture. In this case I set the exposure to 1/250 for a higher shutter speed which is a must for photographing faster moving insects such as flies. The subject of this photo was already located in a bush which shadows were in abundant so by selecting an aperture of f/10 the only available light captured was that of the flash. I usually use a higher aperture in direct light but like I stated before, this was taken in the thick of a bush. Manual mode has proven to be a lot of fun and I find myself staying there a lot more often. One more thing, I'm real new at this sort of thing so please excuse my rather poor description. |
