Note: States Rights Gist was an active secessionist from South Carolina who achieved the rank of brigadier general in the state militia. In 1862 he was commissioned a brigadier general in the Confederate army and served at Vicksburg. He also served at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and Atlanta. He was shot and killed during the Battle of Franklin in 1864. |
