Description
English: Greater Iraq as claimed by the Ba'athist regime in Iraq, particularly under Saddam Hussein. The dark green shows territories confirmed to be claimed by Ba'athist Iraq, including Khuzestan and Kuwait. The lighter green shows the alleged claim by Ba'athist Iraq to the Al-Hasa region. It has been claimed that during the Gulf War Iraq had mobilized its army on the border between annexed Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, to invade the oil-rich Al-Hasa region and force Saudi Arabia to have it annexed to Iraq based on the historic holding of Al-Hasa in the Ottoman province of Basra whose capital was in Iraq. This claim has not been clearly confirmed.
