| Description |
English: Arms of Garland of Whitfield in the parish of Marwood, Devon: Or, three pales gules on a chief per pale gules and sable a chaplet and a demi-lion issuant argent (Source: Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.) The Visitations of the County of Devon: Comprising the Heralds' Visitations of 1531, 1564 & 1620, Exeter, 1895, p.390). These are canting arms, with the blazon re-stated as garland for chaplet. The arms are blazoned slightly differently by Pole: Gules, two pales or a chief parted per pale or and azure on the first a chaplet vert on the second a demi-lion or (Pole, Sir William (d.1635), Collections Towards a Description of the County of Devon, Sir John-William de la Pole (ed.), London, 1791, p.484).
