| Description |
English: Filigreed Clouds at 1445 (10:45 a.m. EDT) on April 27, 2011. A severe weather front extending diagonally across the eastern USA begins with a pretty stripe of filigreed clouds extending from Brownsville Texas, across the Gulf of Mexico, and into the Mississippi watershed. The fine structure is due to "gravity waves," which are vertical pressure bounces in our elastic atmosphere that are generated by wind turbulence. Credit: Dennis Chesters, NASA/NOAA GOES Project
