Summary
[edit]DescriptionFront garden - Flickr - peganum (8).jpg |
After a major sort out recently. I was getting sick of the huge Althaea cannabina in the middle so I cut it down. It's a good plant for a larger space. I don't know if I'll keep it next year. This soil is almost too good. Things just take off. I also cut down the bronze fennel to stop it seeding about and grubbed out a lot of self-sown purple-leaved geranium and Bupleurum. The two Penstemon I was so proud of - cyananthus and barbatus, have rotted off in the wet so I've potted up what remains of the rhizomes and will keep them dry in the greenhouse until spring (P.palmeri and heterophyllus have gone completely). I think the trick, if they're growable long term here at all will be some sort of raised sand pit. Cold is not the issue I'm sure. This soil is just too rich and retentive. |
