A uno de sus extremos la Bandera de los Reyes de España. Al otro extremo una rama de Palma, que significa la victoria y su verdor, así como la fidelidad de la ciudad a los soberanos. Una Corona Real por encima del cuartel, que significa la denominación de los Reyes Españoles. En el interior del cuartel la mitad de un águila negra que representa la prontitud de la conquista y el valor del acontecimiento en que unos pocos españoles se imponen a los indios. Al otro lado una fortaleza y en su parte superior un brazo y una espada española, que representa lo que en la plaza mayor tenían los indios, de donde fueron arrojados por los españoles. En su parte central una cruz y por debajo el sol que expresa el triunfo de la religión cristiana sobre la idolatría. [...] El Escudo de Cajamarca, la bella, es partido. En su primer cuartel presenta una media águila y sobre ella la inicial C, por el rey Carlos IV de España, que fue quien le concedió el rango de Ciudad. En su segundo cuartel hay un castillo o fortaleza con un brazo armado, simbolizando la lucha armada que se desarrolló para conquistar ese bastión incaico, y encima del mismo una letra L, por la reina Luisa de Borbón, esposa del citado rey. Entre ambos cuarteles, o en Abismo, está una Cruz blanca como símbolo de la religión cristiana y, debajo de ella, el Sol, amarillo, símbolo del principal dios incaico. Como timbre tiene este Escudo una corona real de España. Como ornamentos, en los flancos: una bandera, como la que llevaban los españoles al llegar a Cajamarca, y una palma, como símbolo de victoria y de la constante fidelidad y amor de esta Ciudad a sus soberanos.
