DescriptionEndicott school, Endicott, Washington, circa 1911 - DPLA - 69089dae57e746a809099ba8abb89d69.jpg | Postcard of the Endicott School in Endicott, Washington. The history of schools in the Endicott area is believed by some settlers to have begun with a three months summer school before 1885. There is also some mention of a subscription school in the summer and fall of 1885. According to Gordon Reinhold Lindeen in his book titled "History of the settlement and development of Endicott, Washington, to 1930" there were about 50 students taught by a Mrs. Fisher in 1885. Sessions were held in the two story frame building on Rebel Creek and the term of school was five months. This building was the one originally erected by the Oregon Improvement Company for a mess hall and lodging quarters for its workers. Students came on horseback from Winona, Willada, and Union Flats. By 1888, the school had outgrown its location on Rebel Flat Creek and was moved to a house on "C" Street between 2nd and 3rd streets in Endicott, Washington. This was a two room frame building. Classes were held in this building for twelve years when again larger quarters were needed. This time the community built a two story school building at the intersection of 3rd and "A" streets. The 1900 school term was held in this building. During this time there were also seven other schools within a ten mile radius of Endicott. These were the Allen, the Litzenberger, Thera, Hubbard, Hamilton, Lower Union Flat and Winona. Students in Endicott continued to use this building until a brick two story building was completed in, Postcard of the Endicott School in Endicott, Washington.
