Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Detail of the top of the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Memorial in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. The memorial was erected in 1871 and dedicated on Memorial Day in May 1872.

The memorial consists of two stepped square bases of concrete, a plinth of red granite, a short square column of red granite, and a tall cylindrical column of red granite in the Tuscan order. Atop the column is a small concrete base and cast concrete eagle. Inscriptions on the short column list the names of members of the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry who died in the American Civil War. Bas-relief inscriptions on the column list the Battle of Ringgold and the Battle of Missionary Ridge, the two most important battles in which the regiment fought. Around the base of the memorial, at the points of the compass, are four Parrott rifles (one of the most common types of cannon used during the Civil War). Intended to be installed in 1872, the cannon did not arrive until November 1883.

The memorial was erected by veterans of the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
