Description
Español: El castillo de Niebla (o de los Guzmanes) es una fortificación histórica situada en el municipio español de Niebla (Huelva, Andalucía). El edificio, situado en un extremo de la ciudadela construida durante la taifa de Niebla, tiene planta cuadrangular, dividida en dos grandes patios rodeados de torreones cuadrados. La torre del homenaje se levanta en la esquina nordeste y tiene planta cuadrada rematada por almenas defensivas. El material empleado en la construcción mezcla el aparejo de sillarejo, los sillares de piedra y el tapial. Aunque el castillo tiene restos romanos, visigodos y andalusíes, la construcción del edificio actual es posterior a la Reconquista y a la creación del condado de Niebla, siendo el II duque de Medina Sidonia el constructor del castillo actual. El terremoto de 1755 provocó graves desperfectos tanto en las murallas como en el castillo, pero principalmente en la torre del homenaje. Durante la Guerra de la Independencia, parte de las murallas y el castillo fueron destruidos por las tropas francesas.
