Nederlands: De inheemse naam Worò Gjellè is een samenvoeging van de woorden 'Woro', wat 'zilver' betekent en 'Gjellé', wat 'na het zilver' betekent. Met het laatset wordt bedoeld dat wat na het zilver komt, dezelfde kleur maar van mindere kwaliteit, d.w.z. aluminium. Men kent er geen eigen woord voor. Met Gjellé wordt dus aluminium bedoeld. De tweede inheemse naam 'Worbu' is ook een samenvoeging, van 'Woro' (zilver) en 'Bu', wat 'zwart' betekent, de plaats waar het gedragen wordt, wordt zwart.
In het algemeen wordt dit type armbanden van een koper(legering), zilver, ijzer of aluminium vervaardigd. Oorspronkelijk werden ze met kauries betaald. Bij het vergelijken van twee soorten, zilver en aluminium, bleek in 1970 dat zilver nog met kauries werd gehonoreerd, terwijl aluminium met franken werd betaald. Zilveren armbanden werden meer voor de toeristenindustrie en minder voor eigen gebruik gemaakt. De armbanden hadden hun moderniteit verloren, jongeren droegen ze niet meer, de ouderen nog wel (zie opmerking 1). |
