English: This is a photograph of a bust of an emaciated Buddha carved from green-grey schist with traces of gilding. It is dated to the second or third century AD and originates from the site of Gandhara in Afghanistan. It is one of only twenty known ancient sculptures of the emaciated Buddha in existence. It is currently on display in the Eskenazi Museum of Art on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana. |
