Summary
[edit]DescriptionBallylumford power stations, Islandmagee - geograph.org.uk - 255665.jpg |
English: Ballylumford power stations, Islandmagee
The original (coal-fired) power station at Ballylumford was conceived as a dispersed utility during WWII. The oil-fired station (on the left of the photo) opened in 1974 and was converted to dual oil and gas-firing in the mid-90s. The buildings on the right form the combined cycle gas turbine station which opened early this century. Although the stations use mainly gas there is still some oil used by the older station to produce electricity. The tanker Alia is delivering one of the infrequent oil cargoes. The stations are located at the north of Islandmagee opposite Larne harbour. The stations, oil tanks and jetty are in three squares. The main part is in this square. |
