Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The building of Turkish State Opera and Ballet was inaugurated on the evening of April 2, 1948, with a concert composed of the works of Ahmed Adnan Saygun, Necil Kâzım Akses, Ulvi Cemal Erkin and Cemal Reşit Rey in Ankara. With the participation of several soloists, the works were performed by the Presidential Philharmonic Orchestra.

This photo was taken a few years after that evening.
Cars and checker cabs are on the move towards the Yenişehir (New City) on the Atatürk Boulevard. People wearing topcoats are walking on the sidewalk. It must be chilly. A woman in a lady's suit... Who knows where they are going? We were standing on the road opening to Talat Pasha Boulevard.

Atatürk Bulvarı, Büyük Tiyatro (Opera), 1952.

Ankara’da, 2 Nisan 1948 gecesi, Devlet Tiyatro ve Opera binasının Ahmed Adnan Saygun, Necil Kâzım Akses, Ulvi Cemal Erkin ve Cemal Reşit Rey’in eserlerinden oluşan bir konserle açılışı yapıldı. Eserler, bazı solistlerin katılımıyla Cumhurbaşkanlığı Filarmoni Orkestrası tarafından seslendirildi.
O gecenin üzerinden birkaç yıl geçmiş…

Atatürk Bulvarı’nda, damalı taksiler, hususiler hareket hâlindeler, Yenişehir’e doğru. Kaldırımda, mantolu, pardesülü Ankaralılar. Hava serin olmalı. Tayyörüyle dışarıya çıkmış bir kadın. Kim bilir, nereye gidiyorlar. Talat Paşa Bulvarı’na açılan yolun ağzındayız.
