Coll i Pi hizo varias variantes, al menos tres de este funeral: la de este tílulo, la expuesta en el Salón Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile de 1939 (aunque está fechada también a fines de los años 1890) con el título de Último adiós pero sin el personaje que levanta su sombrero, y El momento más cruel, que se diferencia por no tener al hombre que pareciera abrazar al muerto en el ataúd abierto despidiéndose de él.
