Summary
[edit]DescriptionAerotrain Diesel Locomotive.jpg |
English: GM built two sets of these trains.
The locomotives were EMD diesel switch engines with curvy, 50's style body panels and Corvette rooflines complete with wraparound windshields. The cars were GM bus bodies, mounted on single-wheel trucks that gave a very jittery ride at high speeds. After trial periods on both the New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroads, both trainsets were sold to the Rock Island, which ran them in Chicago-area commuter service until the late 60's. |
