Therest of the opposed margins of ischium and pubis are connected with each other to a variableextent, either by mem-branes only or, if thebones touch, by more orless extensive ossification,which in extreme cases, asin some Anatida., leads tothe obliteration of themiddle portion of theshaft of the pubis, so thatits distal portion appearsin a prepared skeletozi asa separate bone. The dis-tal end of the pubis ismostly bowed inwards andbroadened, serving for theattachment of the lateri-ventral muscles of the tail(m. puho - coccygeus).
