English: ASPASIA. New York Publisher: Nesbitt & Co., Printers Date: December 1858 Description: Clipper ship sailing card, on porcelain coated stock, with color wood-engraved illustration. 18 x 12 cm. (7¼ x 4¾"). Sailing card for the Shipper’s Line vessel, Green the commander. The card features the Milesian woman Aspasia, famous for her involvement with the Athenian statesman Pericles, standing on a raised platform, gesturing to the crowd below.
