Summary
[edit]Description7th century Vishwa Brahma Temples, Alampur, Telangana India - 62.jpg |
English: Also spelled Visva Brahma Temple or Viswa Brahma Temple, this is a 7th-century Nagara-style temple found in Alampur village, Telangana, India. It is one of the nine Navabrahma temples.
Highly ornate, intricately carved masterpiece from 3rd or 4th quarter of the seventh century, it features a square plan. The mandapa, covered circumambulation passage, niches and pillar designs are elaborate, yet the plan remains a fusion of squares and circles in this temple. Though the artwork inside and on the outer walls show considerable signs of defacement, chopping of limbs and intentional damage, enough survives to suggest that the artisans placed great attention to details. Like the Svarga Brahma Temple, this is a finely constructed Hindu temple in stone. The Vishwa Brahma temple is the northern most of the nine, it too opens to the east.
