Description
English: A group of 7 silver Post Medieval coins; 2 groats of Mary (AD 1553 - 1554) and 2 groats and 3 sixpences of Elizabeth I (AD 1558 - 1603), ranging in date from AD 1553 - 1569, though they could have continued in circulation later than this.

1. A silver Post Medieval coin; a groat of Mary, dating from AD 1553 - 1554. Initial mark is illegible. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1960 on page 136. The obverse legend is MARIA D G [A]NG FRA Z HIB REGI and the design is a crowned bust of Mary facing left. The reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee. The legend reads: VERITAS pomegranate TEMPORIS FILIA. Die axis: 2 o'clock, 24.1mm diameter, 0.6mm thick and 1.7g. The coin is crumpled and there are some edge chips.

2. A silver Post Medieval coin; a fragment of a groat of Mary, dating from AD 1553 - 1554. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1960 on page 136. The obverse legend is [MARIA D] G ANG F[RA Z HIB REGI] and the design is missing. The reverse shows a shield over a long cross fourchee. The legend reads: [VERIT]AS pomegranate TEM[PORIS FILIA]. Die axis: uncertain, 17mm long, 11.5mm wide and 0.6mm thick. 0.5g The coin is bent and cracked.

3. A silver Post Medieval coin; a groat of Elizabeth I, first issue (AD 1558 - 1561), initial mark cross crosslet, dating from AD 1560 - 1561. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1986 on page 133. The obverse shows a crowned bust left with a wire line inner circle and the legend is ELIZABETH D G AN FR ET HI REGINA, and the reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee, has a wire line inner circle and has the legend: POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV. Die axis: 9 o'clock, 25.2mm diameter, 0.7mm thick and 2g.

4. A silver Post Medieval coin; a groat of Elizabeth I, first issue (AD 1558 - 1561), initial mark cross crosslet, dating from AD 1560 - 1561. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1986 on page 133. The obverse shows a crowned bust left with a wire line inner circle and the legend is ELIZABETH D G [AN F]R ET HI REGINA, and the reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee, has a wire line inner circle and has the legend: POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV. Die axis: 2 o'clock, 23.2mm diameter, 0.7mm thick, and 1.9g. The coin is bent.

5. A silver Post Medieval coin; a sixpence of Elizabeth I, second issue (AD 1561 - 1582), pheon initial mark (AD 1561 - 1565) dated 1565. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1997 on page 134. The obverse legend is: ELIZABETH D G AN FR ET HI REGINA and the design is a crowned bust of Elizabeth left with a rose behind. Obverse initial mark is illegible. The reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee with the date 1565 above. The legend reads: POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV. Die axis 6o'clock, 24.8mm diameter, 0.8mm thick and 2.6g. The coin is bent.

6. A silver Post Medieval coin; a fragment of a sixpence of Elizabeth I, second issue (AD 1561 - 1582), lion initial mark dating from AD 1566 - 1567. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1997 on page 134. The obverse legend is: ELI[ZABETH D G ANG FR ET] HI REGINA and the design is a crowned bust of Elizabeth left. The reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee. The legend reads: [POSVI DEV] ADIVTOREM M[EV]. Die axis 4 o'clock, 24.1mm long, 13.4mm wide and 0.9mm thick. 1.4g. More than half of the coin is missing, snapped off.

7. A silver Post Medieval coin; a sixpence of Elizabeth I, second issue (AD 1561 - 1582), coronet initial mark (AD 1569 - 1571) dated 1569. See North (1991) Volume 2, number 1997 on page 134. The obverse legend is: ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HI REGINA and the design is a crowned bust of Elizabeth left with a rose behind. The reverse shows a square topped shield over a long cross fourchee with the date 1569 above. The legend reads: POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV. Die axis 10o'clock, 24.7mm diameter, 0.8mm thick and 3g. One edge of the coin is slightly bent.

These coins were issued within 16 years of each other, would all have been in circulation together and were found in association with each other, suggesting they were a purse loss. The group can be compared to LIN-0DB67F (2018 T999), SF-9C555E (2017 T416) and YORYM-0705A6 (2017 T375).
