La medersa Ben Youssef est une medersa, joyau de l'architecture amazigho-arabo-andalouse situe a Marrakech, au Maroc.. . La medersa est fondee par Abu al-Hasan, sultan merinide. La structure actuelle de cette ecole coranique fut edifiee vers 1570 par les saadiens et restauree en 1950.. . Elle est l'oeuvre du sultan saadien Abdallah el-Ghalib qui en acheva la construction en 1564-1565.. . Le nom Ben Youssef vient du sultan amazigh almoravide Ali Ben Youssef.. . La medersa fut durant plus de quatre siecles un foyer d'accueil pour les etudiants en soif de connaissances dans diverses sciences, notamment en theologie. Elle disposait de 132 chambres destinees aux etudiants non originaires de Marrakech et pouvait accueillir jusqu'a 900 etudiants. A l'oppose de la porte d'entree, de l'autre cote du bassin rectangulaire, s'ouvre la salle de prieres constituee de trois nefs delimitees par des piliers de marbre supportant des arcs aux facades ciselees de motifs d'ornementation. La nef centrale donne sur une petite salle en demi-cercle dont l'ouverture est somptueusement decoree de motifs floraux et geometriques. Cette salle recele le mirhab decore d'une dentelle de platre sculpte formant des alveoles. Cette dentelle de platre ou poussiere de marbre, d'un blanc laiteux et soyeux, realisee au ciseau fin, le fer et minutieusement gravee, incisee, ciselee comme une veritable resille se nomme le stuc ou gebs. |
