Description
English: Peintures d'animaux superposées, abri n° III C-50

Cet abri peint est appelé le "rocher du zoo" en raison du grand nombre de peintures d'animaux qui s'y trouvent sur 10 couches superposées. On peut y observe également des humains.


Le site de Bhimbetka est classé sur la liste de l'UNESCO du patrimoine mondial

Les abris sous roche du Bhimbetka se trouvent au pied des monts Vindhyan, au sud du plateau de l’Inde centrale.

Cinq groupes d’abris sous roche naturels sont situés au sein d’énormes affleurements de grès, au-dessus d’une forêt relativement dense, et contiennent des peintures qui paraissent commencer au mésolithique et se poursuivre sans interruption jusqu’à l’époque historique.

Dans les vingt et un villages qui entourent le site, vivent des populations dont les traditions culturelles contemporaines rappellent celles dépeintes dans les peintures rupestres. extrait de la fiche UNESCO whc.unesco.org/fr/list/925
