中文（臺灣）：這批相片由台灣新生報記者於1978年4月25日拍攝，主題為臺鐵最後一班觀光號列車。臺北車站站長陳德沛在月臺行舉手禮向列車長張旭堂致意後，這班火車將從臺北開往屏東車站。月台上也停靠了當時尚在試運轉的EMU100型電聯車（1978年8月起作為自強號營運）。

1950年代後期，政府為賺取外匯而發展觀光旅遊業，推行「遠東觀光年」等計畫。1961年臺灣鐵路管理局為配合政府政策及提升服務品質，在縱貫線開行觀光號列車，該列車配置寬大的坐臥兩用椅，也是第一款有空調設備的車廂，而停靠站也較少。因為觀光號列車擁有舒服的乘坐空間，票價比普通車、快車、對號快車及光華號更昂貴。

1970年莒光號開行，在功能與定位上和觀光號衝突，因此觀光號於1978年4月25日停駛，觀光號列車車廂改造為莒光號車廂。由於當時縱貫線電氣化工程已通車至新竹，因此該班列車以E300型電力機車拖曳。

觀光號列車的開行反映了當時的時代背景。1966年開行的光華號雖然沒有空調，但是速度更快，1970年開行的莒光號內裝則比觀光號高級，自強號則兼顧高速與高級內裝，觀光號則在此前不久結束營運。
