Ivy Green. The XR was the 1st Australian Falcon to have a V8 which led to; the 289 V8 GT Falcon; it was based on a pursuit vehicle developed for the Victorian Police, the GTs main purpose was to win the Gallaher 500 at Bathurst. The XR GT was the 1st real Australian muscle car, which led to a competition between Ford, Holden and Chrysler to produce the fastest car around Bathurst. Built in 1967, 596 made, mainly in GT Gold (8 in Gallaher Silver, 1 Russet Bronze, 1 Sultan Maroon, 1 Polar White, 1 Avis White, 1 Ivy Green) The GT got improved suspension, brakes, transmission and the 289 V8 got a 4 bbl carb, revised camshaft and exhaust manifold, giving it 225 bhp. The GT also got the Fairmont interior, extra gauges, Hurst shifter and Mustang steering wheel. Outside, chrome wheel covers, black grille and side stripes The XR GT won the Gallaher 500 in 1967 at Bathurst on debut, driven by Harry Firth and Fred Gibson.
