| Description |
The Dodge Phoenix was assembled in Australia from 1960-73. It was an Australian assembled version of American and Canadian Dodges and Plymouths. They were positioned above the locally developed Chrysler Royal as Chrysler Australia’s large luxury model. They were only offered only as a four-door sedan and only with a 318 cubic inch V8 engine (apart from 1967). The Phoenix was based on the Dodge Dart from 1960-62. From 1963-64 the Phoenix was based on the American Dodge 440. And based on the Canadian Plymouth Fury III from 1965-73. The 1963 TD2 Phoenix was the first to be based on the American Dodge 440, the base 330, mid 440 and top Polara had a 3 inch longer wheelbase than the Dart. The 1963 440/TD2 Phoenix had a less radical look than the 1962 Dart/SD2 Phoenix, it had a convex grille and a less shapely body. Engine; 318 cu in V8 |
