Description

Morris Cars were available from 1913- 1984. The MG was introduced in 1923, a sporting version of the Morris. In 1927 Morris Motors bought Wolseley, then in 1935, bought Riley. Morris merged with Austin in 1952 to form BMC (British Motor Corporation). Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG. The Morris Eight was a small car built from 1935-48, similar to the Austin 7. but heavier, better equipped with superior performance. The 1935-37 Series I got a chrome radiator surround and honeycomb grille. It got the 23.5hp 918cc sidevalve 4 cyl engine and was available in 2 or 4 door Saloon, Tourer, Van and unique to Australia, the Coupe Utility. Running chassis were sent to Australia and bodies were completed there by Ruskin of Melbourne. The 1938 Series II got a painted radiator surround and artillery style wheels replacing the spokes. Later in 1938, the completely restyled and slightly larger Morris 8 Series E was introduced. featuring 'waterfall' grille, headlights were now in the wings, a rear hinged bonnet was introduced and the running boards had gone. The engine got a new cylinder head, now 29hp. The upmarket Wolseley 8 was offered after 1945. The 1940-54 Series Z was the commercial version, bars in the grille were horizontal, headlights were back on top of the guards. A Van available in the UK and a Coupe Utility in Australia.

The Morris 8 was replaced by the Morris Minor in 1948
