Description
English: Five Main Roads (Gokaidō):

1. Tōkaidō (Eastern Sea Road); 2. Nakasendō (Middle Mountain Road); 3. Kōshū-kaidō (Kōshū Road); 4. Nikkō-kaidō (Nikkō Road); 5. Ōshū-kaidō (Ōshū Road).

The map on which the roads are traced is a cut out from “Dai Nihon saiken shishō zenzu” (Shōtō, Sanjin, 1830) at Japanese Maps of the Tokugawa Era, from the Open Collection at the University of British Columbia Library.

I emailed him for permission and received it:

"Yes, you have my permission to use the map. However the map is not from Wikipeida. The map I posted is a cut out of a 1830 Map of Japan that I found at the University of British Columbia Library: https://open.library.ubc.ca/collections/tokugawa/items/1.0223029

I drew the lines and added labels to the map using Photoshop."
