church was originally The EvangelicalLutheran Congregation of Applebachsville, but laterit was changed to St. Pauls Evangelical LutheranCongregation. The congregation was organizedbefore or shortly after the building of the church in1855. It was originally a part of the SpringfieldParish, which parish was then a part of the Minis-terium of Pennsylvania. Since 1863 the congrega-tion has, however, been a part of Kellers Parish.No records of any historical value were kept of thecongregation until 1874, when Rev. J. F. Ohl becamepastor. He kept a complete record of all pastoralacts. In the year 1900, while Rev. Warren Nickelserved as pastor, the church was renovated at a costof $1,800, and was re-dedicated in September of thesame year. Within the last year, 1916, a new roofwas placed on the church at a cost of $500, and planshave been made to thoroughly renovate the interiorof the church. Rev. C. P. His successors,and when they served, are as follows: Rev. R. B.Kistler, from 1865 to 1870; Rev. George M. Lazarus,from 1870 to 1874; Rev. J. F. Ohl, from 1874 to 1893;Rev. G. C. Gardner, from 1893 to 1895; Rev. War-ren Nickel, a son of the congregation, from 1896 to1908; Rev. Norman Y. Ritter, from 1909 to Janu-ary 1, 1915. The present pastor, Rev. Rufus E. Kern,began his pastorate on March 1, 1916. ST. JOHNS, CENTER SQUARE IN the year 1768 St. Michaels, in Germantown,was without a pastor. An appeal was sent toHalle, Germany, for a preacher to fill the vacancy.After a careful consideration of the candidates for theoffice, the choice rested upon one, Johann FriederickSchmidt.
