Description

Having arrived into Banff on the evening of 1 October, I stayed two nights in the town which is one of the main tourist hubs in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Rocky Mountaineer works back from here the following day on it's two day trip to Vancouver with an overnight stay in Kamloops. Between Kamloops and Banff, the train takes the Canadian Pacific line through what is undoubtedly the most scenic stretch of railway through the Rocky Mountains including the famous Kicking Horse Pass spiral tunnels. Unfortunately weather conditions weren't brilliant the day of my journey because of rain and low cloud cover.

However a chance not to be missed was the following morning prior to departure with 3 EMD GP40-2L locomotives - 8019, 8014 and 8012 and the 23-car consist awaiting departure with 08:00 Banff to Vancouver ""First Passage To The West". Date taken, 2 October 2024.
