Description

Votive relief depicting a nude athlete, standing left, with his body turned three-quarters and the head shown in profile. With his right hand the youth is crowing himself by placing a wreath on his own head. The holes in the head were used to attach the metal wreath. The hair, tied with a ribbon,hangs on the napein short wavy tresses. The background was blue, as is clear from the traces of paint at the left side. This artwork is one of the few original Attic marble sculpture of the Severe Style dating from about 460 BC.
