Description

This set shows the tradidional heraldic crowns of France as they are used since Francis I by the French nobility of the Ancien Régime. A further advantage of this set is (besides the better quality of the images) that the some of the original source files (illustrations created by the famous heraldician Hugo Gerhard Ströhl (*1851 †1919)) which were used to create them are also available on commons: ( )

  •  Info The current valued image set for this scope is available here (current set is made of SVG pictures, this one is PNG-based). We don't have a "most valued review" procedure for valued image sets (and I think there are no "former" templates available for the moment), but I'm sure we can work it out, should the current set be superseded by this one. I think people should vote here like on an MVR, "support" meaning "the existing set should be delisted in favor of this one" and "oppose" meaning "keep the existing set". I will not vote, of course. --Eusebius (talk) 08:29, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose The format of SVG adds considerably to the value. These were vector graphics. They should have been uploaded as vector graphics. It's like software, I rather have a decent program with source code than a prettier one without. I read somewhere that these were purposely uploaded this way to retain control over them. That kinda goes against the whole wiki/free culture thing, eh? I mean, that is something we value here. Rocket000(talk) 02:09, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    •  Comment As I read the comment, the raster version was not uploaded to gain control opf the source but to gain control over how it is rendered. It is well known that our SVG renderer sometimes produces results, which are pretty way of the intention of the creator, e.g., compare this svg with this png based on the same source (compare, e.g., the blurring of the leaves in the foreground). However, to clarify that I will ask the creator and ask is the svg version is available. --Slaunger (talk) 20:43, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose I assume these are saved from a vector format, diminishing their usability. They are rather good though. Lack of vector format in this type of images however takes priority. Lycaon (talk) 12:38, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
