Fix the image annotator

Description of the Problem

• Problem description:

For some editors the image annotator does not work and for others the image annotator works only for random files (we didn't yet find out what identifies the editable ones and the ones that one cannot be edited). When it is not working the editors cannot see existing ImageNotes when hovering over images, and the "Add a Note" button is not present as well.

Then another issue is that for some editors (such as me) the image annotator only functions with the work around described here. I am not the only one, since the workaround description comes with image annotator.

If this gets some support and a team focuses on redeveloping it, there are two issues that could also be considered. One is that for the moment only rectangular shapes are possible, but for some objects, circular or oval ones would be quite good to have. Was mentioned here. And if one crops a file, the image annotations shall disappear as pointed out by an editor here (in German) The second one I did not experience myself, maybe the image annotator stopped working on cropped images for the cropping editor, but maybe they are still visible to other editors?.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 12:06, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

•  Question I see no reason not to endorse, but what exactly is the priority of the bugfix? Will the task be considered complete if oval shapes for some reason cannot be added or the chopping editor problems cannot be fixed? Cheers! Johnson524 (talk) 00:13, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

  The priority would be that the current ImageAnnotator works without a workaround for all editors. Any additional features would be nice to have but are not necessary. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 07:21, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

  Nevermind, I figured out this is referring to the "server missing mandatory form error" caused by 2017 wikitext editor, which was fixed in June by Ebrahim & MatmaRex [1]. With that in mind and also the fix for a different issue at [2] - @Paradise Chronicle: are there any remaining known issues with this gadget, or is it all fixed now?
