This template seems to be largely ignored, it clutters up the category page, and is for editors only. It could be turned into a hidden category. Alan Liefting (talk) 06:27, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- Keep, but rewrite with more useful links.
Redirect to CatDiffuse.See Template:CatDiffuse. It is better, and has useful links helpful for categorization. It can be edited further if need be. The additional languages can be put in a show/hide box. That would make the template more compact, and thus it would not clutter up the category page as much. --Timeshifter (talk) 13:49, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- That template has pretty much the same issues. Alan Liefting (talk)
- Not at all. It has useful, specific links that help with creating and finding subcategories. It sounds like from your talk page that you need to learn more about sub-categorization. Others have pointed this out to you, but you seem to be ignoring them for the most part. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:54, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- Long section of language links has been removed. So one of Alan Liefting's main complaints (clutter) has been dealt with in my opinion. The template is now very compact. My problem with it now is that it needs some more useful links. I see now that the 2 templates create 2 different categories, and both look like they are needed. See: Category:Categories requiring diffusion. They are useful if somebody is looking for some work to do. The permanent diffusion category may not have as many categories in it with files needing subcategorization. The temporary diffusion category may provide more work for editors to help out with. --Timeshifter (talk) 19:22, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

- Strong oppose With the "seems to be largely ignored" argument we could get rid of all the licence templates since when you look at tineye or the google image search page you will find maaaaaaany images used outside the licence conditions. I tell you why this template is ignored as it is: I've cleaned up several categories into subcategories and it was a huuuuuuge work (for the bigger categories it took me a day for each of them of my free time to manage that). If you really want to do it properly you have to know which categories there can/should be and how to name them following at least something like a name scheme.
@Timeshifter: I'm not really a fan of replacing the template (I guess you can remember the not too short discussion a while ago) since one says something like do not put images in this category/put them into subcategories while the other says this category is too full, clean it up. I have to admit that CatDiffuse has more usefull links, but speaking textwise it assumes that there are no or not enough sub categories. Categorise assumes that these categories already exist and just tells you to move them. Something that would make both of them better than they are right now is:
for categorise: check how many images are in the category and see if they have different content (if there are like 10+ images in the category it would be easy to code the template the way to say something) but I have no idea how to check the content would work. On the other hand there is not really that need to check the content if the template is only placed in categories where it needs/should be
for catdiffuse: When the author starts uploading the image catdiffuse could jump right in and tell the uploader to use another category. That could also work with editors using the regular wiki edit page.

- I started a discussion here:
- Template talk:Autotranslate
- See the section currently titled "How do you collapse this template by default". It links to these templates.
- You wrote: "do not put images in this category/put them into subcategories while the other says this category is too full, clean it up".
- Those are very similar. I could easily rewrite the template to incorporate both purposes. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:27, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
- Language links have been removed. I have changed my mind about consolidating the 2 templates. See my comment higher up about Category:Categories requiring diffusion. --Timeshifter (talk) 19:22, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Kept: much used template, no concensus for deletion Krd 16:09, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
