Permission from photographer John Merkle needed.

Patrick Rogel (talk) 20:59, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The photos are owned by the campaigns and are not owned by John Merkle. How can I demonstrate this? MrHarman (talk) 02:29, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am working with the photographer and the campaign to clarify the ownership and copyright. I am going on a business trip for the weekend. Please stay tuned. MrHarman (talk) 17:37, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • P.S. I have contributed photos and articles for over a dozen years, but this is a new situation for me. Please bear with me. Thank you!
  • I'm back now. I have tried to reach the photographer by phone and have sent an email. The Libertarian Party has reiterated that they own the rights to these photographs. I'm working on obtaining a response from John Merkle. Thank you for your forbearance, MrHarman (talk) 19:08, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have contacted John, Merkle, the photographer, and I received the following response:
My email
"I have been working with Wikipedia to have these photos appear in appropriate articles, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois_elections,_2018. So far so good, but Wikipedia is wondering whether the campaign has the rights to upload these photos. Brian Lambrecht (on copy) [the campaign manager], with whom I've been working, has stated that the photos can be used for campaign purposes such as this.
Could you let me know the status of these photos? . . . Thank you in advance for your response. Please do not hesitate to call me if you'd prefer to talk.
John Merkle's response
Hi,
Thanks for the kind words…
Technically I own the copyrights. But I told Brian as long as I have been paid (which I have been Paid) he and the party can use the photographs however and whenever they want to use the photos that I took.
You have JOHN MERKLE'S permission to use the photos.
Hope that this clears up your question.
-John
@MrHarman: This has to go through COM:OTRS. Note they will not accept forwarded e-mails. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:23, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted: Per above - permission needs to be submitted directly by Merkle using the process at COM:OTRS. Note also that "[Brian] and the party can use the photographs however and whenever they want" will not be adequate. We require that absolutely anyone be allowed to use the images. --Эlcobbola talk 18:04, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
