This file was tagged by Dipankan001 as Copyvio for the following reason: Copyrighted screenshot of Linux OS claimed as own work. But Linux is licensed under a free license. RE rillke questions? 22:57, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment First, it's simply not true that Linux the OS is licensed under a free license. Any particular Linux distribution is a combination of works under a great many licenses, and several Linux distributions include works under non-free licenses.
  • Secondly, and I know this could also be laid against many screenshots, but how are we remotely following the license? At the very least, we haven't provided the copyright notices and disclaimer of warranty the license demands. I have no clue how the other requirements of the GNU GPL fall on us, but those we're pretty clearly violating.--Prosfilaes (talk) 01:14, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • You are right. I just read about the Kernel. en:Linux Mint License: Mainly the GPL (this can be everything; especially the wallpaper)
    • If we would assume the program is licensed under GPL -> mw:Copyright of MediaWiki screenshots -- in this case, I think sentence B applies.
    • If we would assume the license of the program applies to the screenshots, we must comply with the terms of GPL.
