- Some of these are colorizations File:حسن البنا يخطب في الجماهير خلال حديث الثلاثاء من كل أسبوع.jpg, some aren't.
- Firstly the non-colorizations. AFAIK, these are invalid licences. In which case, delete.
- The colorizations are a problem because they've been uploaded to overwrite their original sources. That needs to be reverted. But otherwise there's no reason to delete them. I'd be happy to see them kept, but split into separate files and identified as derivatives – if anyone has the enthusiasm to do that. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:45, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Delete invalid licenses and randomly upload, most of them are (anonymous author) and copyright law in Egypt : Other works that are either anonymous or pseudonymous (published prior to 1946) to be expired in USA, all of files published after 1946 and that mean it are not free. Comment I see that the uploader has changed the licence to CC BY-SA 4.0. This is good, but I have a couple of concerns:
- The uploader marked the change as minor.
On a much more serious note, the CC version 3.0 licences (unlike the version 4.0 licences) lack provisions to restore the licences automatically after licence violations. How does that apply here?

I think this is a URAA issue. Hanka Krawcec died in 1990. That probably means that the graphic design by her is copyrighted for 70 years after her death. That would make this image a restored work under the URAA. The CC-BY SA tag on this is bunk no matter what. - I missed the NC part here, sorry for that. Europeana links the source of the foto to Spielzeugmuseum Nürnberg Kinderreigen. They don't have any license statement at all. This is a fake image (the man is super-imposed onto the background). His feet are not touching the snow, parts of his right sleeve and left trouser are crudely cut using an editing tool, parts of his body have an unnatural black lining (including his head). Keep. Looking closely at the image, I think it's actually legitimate. Notice that shadow in the snow. It matches perfectly what would happen if the subject was jumping (which he seems to be). It would be very difficult to edit in a matching shadow (and there wouldn't be a shadow if he wasn't there in the first place). The files are images of the statue of Pinocchio in Collodi, Italy, which was built in 2008 (source), such that the original design of the statue is still copyrighted in Italy. Per COM:FOP Italy, there are no free FOP in Italy. The files are therefore copyrighted and unfree for Commons.

This poster is not "anonymous" as it was claimed; it's a work of Austrian artist Adolf Reich (see his "AReich" signature in the upper left corner), who lived 1887–1963. So this work is still protected by copyright, and the file should be deleted. It can be restored in 2034. (The tiny first version of this file is not even for the 1924 Austrian film, but for a 1935 US film named "Mad Love", based on the same novel. Could be still copyrighted as well.) This was tagged as {{PD-because}} with the following rationale: "it is a work of the Alaska Blue Book, which is public domain. Examples of these images include, but are not limited to File:William A. Egan.jpg, File:H. A. Boucher.jpg, & File:Lowell Thomas, Jr. 1975.jpg, among others". The lack of willingness by regulars on Wikimedia sites to properly school people on copyright has long been concerning. Here's a short primer. The first three editions of the Alaska Blue Book are in the public domain because "published in the United States prior to January 1, 1978 without a copyright notice" is pretty straighforward. The next six editions of that work are possibly in the public domain under the terms of {{PD-US-1978-89}}, but that hasn't been determined. The versions contained on Google Books are referred to as copyrighted. The last several editions, which includes this one, are a whole different matter. The very specific date of March 1, 1989 referred to in the latter template corresponds to the date the United States finally became a party to the Berne Convention. Anything published from that date forward is presumed copyrighted for a fixed term, which at present is 95 years. Are we on the same page or not? My read of Alaska law and conversations with Alaska officials favors the notion that Alaska considers its works to be under copyright only in very specific cases. Of course, copyright is a federal matter and their rules apply, namely that works of a state government are presumed copyrighted unless and until explicitly established otherwise by law. Regardless of the conflict between the original uploader and the user who mass-nominated his uploads for deletion last year, I feel that it is extremely unlikely that this image is properly licensed. Uploader does indeed have a bad record of uploading copyvio as own work, and this is not mitigated by some of the images having been found to be PD for historical reasons once their provenance was traced. - There is a {{PD-MAGov}} tag. Neither PD-EdictGov nor the PD-US-Codes tag are appropriate. The PD-MAGov seems to be for state agency works, particularly works which have been transferred to the Massachusetts Archives. This one has not, it would seem. The Harvard page may indicate that the General Court records may be exempted from public records disclosure, so that may not count as a state agency in this case. Furthermore, tineye finds hits on old versions of remax.com from 2016, so this is likely a publicity photo from her time as a realtor and re-used on the government site, rather than being something authored by the government. Keep This is an image of Hotel De Boer, which was built in 1898. My guess is that it was created pre-1927 due to the existence of a horse and buggy in the photograph. So it's likely PD. Given that I suggest the license just be changed. The nominator could also do research on the artist, Schiel. That might give a more approximate time of a creation, but either way I doubt it was created any time after the mid 20s. A lot of hotels used very similar promotional material in the earlier 1900s that were usually created by prominent artists of the time. As File:COLLECTIE TROPENMUSEUM Drukte bij het spoorwegstation TMnr 60024764.jpg shows, horses with carts were still used in that city in 1947, so the existence of one in the image is not an argument that it is "pre-1927". The image is signed Schiele, but I could not find an artist with that name who could have realistically done it. So I don't really have a date other than it cannot be earlier than 1898. I think it's well possible that it is from the 1940s, and the artist could then have lived well into the 1950s or 1960s. This license is probably in my good faith insufficient for retention on commons, but welcome others thoughts. It would almostly certainly be permitted as fair use on the English Wikipedia if the associated page was in mainspace rather than draft. Because myself, the deletion nominator, created that draft, am indef blocked on English Wikipedia this is somewhat complicated. Deleted: This photograph was published as the illustration facing the title page of her 1936 autobiography, see here, and credited there to Lewis Protheroe. The book, published on October 8, 1936 in London, was registered for copyright in the US (see here) on November 1, 1936. The copyright was apparently not renewed, as I could not find a renewal at either [4] or [5].
Since the US registration is for a foreign book in English language under ad interim provisions of March 4, 1909 act and gives only London as the place of publication, there is no simultaneous publication, and the source country per the Berne Convention and for our purposes is the UK. Which means the copyright, though it was not renewed in the US, was restored there by the URAA in 1996, since the book was still protected in the UK on the URAA date. It will be protected in the US until the end of 2031. In the UK, it will be protected until the end of 2041, since the author died in 1971.
The photograph by Lewis Protheroe will also be protected until the end of 2031 in the US. Searching for bibliographical information about this photographer on the web and with Ancestry as well as MyHeritage I found conflicting years of birth (1875 or 1882, as recorded here), but only 1964 as the year he died. Which means the photograph is still protected until the end of 2034 in the UK, and the file can be restored in 2035. --Rosenzweig τ 20:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

The website from which these two files were scraped, 100 Years of Alaska's Legislature, was published in 2013. That a photo was taken in the early 1970s does not necessarily mean it was published in the early 1970s. Alaska state government agencies have placed previously unpublished photos on the state government website before. No further publication details were provided to prove that these were published on the listed dates without a copyright notice. RadioKAOS (talk) 11:09, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- Keep Alaska published a yearly directory since at least 1960, with an image of each person in the legislature, with no copyright. See, for example the 1983 directory. The 2013 centennial directory republished the official portraits from the yearly directories. We have about a dozen of these images already loaded from either the yearly directory or the anniversary directory. - I'd say keep. I'd say the only arguably "original" part of it is the "O" in "Frontiers", and even then an additional circle inside an O isn't exactly what I'd call unique to this logo. We've also kept similar Sonic-related logos in the past, such as File:Sonic Runners logo.png TheJoebro64 (talk) 21:51, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

- Delete: I concur with Guerillero. This is a close call, but we should err on the side of caution. As an aside, I find it depressing that this project is failing so badly that deletion discussions remain open for months at a time now. Wow.
