Most of these file does not have any metadata, and the uploader seems to have conflict of interest (promoting for Tả Phìn Hồ (a travel destination) and Vietnam Indigenous Medical Institute (an organization which invest in the place)). The rest of theirs hardly have any evidence of copyright status. Unnamed UserName me 14:30, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Likely not own works: disparate sizes, quality, and styles, missing or inconsistent EXIF data and many with transmission code. Even includes Google Map screenshot as own work. Unreliable uploader. (I excluded the few high-res images with full EXIF data.)

While these images are indeed from flickr, they depict items not created by the flickr photographer such as Computer and Mobile Phone Applications, BitCoins of various types, and apparently stock photos (on the computers/phones). The gallery appears to be promotional as the name of the uploader here is same as the flickr uploader and the topic is singular.

The Eiffel Tower peace symbol is copyrighted (it's been noted in news) -- this is a derivative of that art 101.186.93.163 14:30, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jean Jullien isn't the author of this picture and the drawn symbol is very simple. Keep.--CennoxX (talk) 16:20, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Keep it. It's painted on a Stone at a public place and Freedom of panorama. --Dk0704 (talk) 16:20, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is no Freedom of panorama in France, so if this artwork would pass the threshold of originality (which I think it doesn't), it has to be deleted.--CennoxX (talk) 19:09, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Horst-schlaemma: Yes, it is: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Peace for Paris.svg. @Dk0704: , @CennoxX: this image is taken in the United States. Freedom of panorama, however, doesn't apply to artwork (only buildings) in USA: Commons:Freedom of panorama#United States. Any conceivable keep argument thus hangs on if this is a derivative work, or merely inspired by the idea of the original. Finnusertop (talk) 02:23, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're being ridiculous here. That's what the author of the sign says: «It wasn't a piece to promote myself, sell anything or get anything. It was meant to be used freely, to encourage peace in Paris and peace in general» Source. Same or even more clear here. Cheers, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 11:43, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The French Flag ist public domain and the PeaceSympol is in Threshold of originality, see Licensing here and here. Are you sure, that both together will be copyrighted? --Dk0704 (talk) 13:49, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Likely the same image as that of deleted file. There is no FOP for public art by living artists in the United States, and as per the older DR the peace symbol is apparently copyrighted and exceeds American threshold of originality. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 05:20, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Delete The previous closing rationale is wrong, as The Rock is a natural boulder and therefore can't be copyrighted, though artwork on it may be copyrightable. However, if the Peace for Paris symbol is copyrighted (which, I honestly think is silly since it's just the peace symbol with an extra line), then we can't host derivatives of it. clpo13(talk) 16:19, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly trademarked logos that may be above the threshold of originality. I know COM:TOO United States is relatively liberal and the threshold of originality can be a subjective standard, but looking at the examples of marks that were considered copyrightable, which includes stylized text logos and/or simple shapes, I believe the listed logos are copyrightable, or at least open to discussion.

Delete all as they are likely above the threshold of originality.
Info: U.S. Copyright Office registration VA0000564963 ("Seattle Mariners compass design") seems to describe the Seatle Mariners logo.
Info: Registration VA0000562899 ("New York Mets : [design no. 2]") seems to correspond to the 1993 logo. [1] It is therefore reasonable to assume similar logos are copyrighted.
Info: Registration VA0001834664 ("Toronto Blue Jays 2012 Primary Club Logo.") seems fairly obvious. [2]
Info: Registration VA0000488436 ("Colorado Rockies.") is claimed by the Colorado Baseball Partnership 1993, Ltd.

Triggered by your objection, I searched the commons policies, and found COM:ADVERT to express my intentions best (see also 4th item at COM:SPAM), while COM:SELFIE is not too clear, and COM:NOTUSED isn't a standalone reason for deletion (as you said above).
While I agree that female engineers are still more notable than male engineers, I'd not agree that every female engineer is notable in the Commons sense. Collecting portraits for the case that the subject might become notable in future would turn Commons into a copy of (e.g.) Flickr.
(The same applies to File:Dipl.-Ing. Nicole (Nicki) Fleischmann geb. Brock, 2011.jpg, of course.) - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 10:46, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As we cannot prove that this photo was uploaded with the intention of self-promotion, I propose to keep the files. Notability is a separate issue, but again, it hasn't been demonstrated that this specific person is not notable, and this had not been mentioned in the request for deletion. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 11:20, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"we cannot prove that this photo was uploaded with the intention of self-promotion": I think that the uploader's username, "Nicole Brock", as well as the file description "
Selbstbildnis
" (self-portrait), both clearly suggesting that the uploader is depicted in the photograph, are a red flag for self-promotion. You can also consult the user's contributions/logs on dewiki for further proof.  Delete. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 17:56, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This file was initially tagged by Ellywa as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: Derivative work with copyrighted painting of Tiele d.1956. Undelete 2027 please. Cropped version without painting can stay. Mdd (talk) 09:01, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete is required. Uploader/Mdd does not give arguments why the image should be kept, or why a lengthier procedure is required. I cropped the painting to solve the problem.File:Huldiging van Prof. dr. F.A. Stoett, waarbij door J. C. Tiele geschilderd portret werd aangeboden, 1933 (cropped).jpg. Mdd is a longtime user who should know the copyright rules by now. Elly (talk) 09:54, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(After edit conflict) This file does not qualify for speedy-deletion and a regular deletion request has been started, because there are thousands of similar pictures on Commons from the Netherlands alone: press photo's of events with some kind of fragment of an art work present. They are covered by freedom of press and De minimis regulation. -- Mdd (talk) 10:19, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for you motivation now. The portret painting is very prominently shown, painted by nl:Jan Tiele, who died 1956. It is even mentioned in the title of the image. I consider this not COM:De minimis. The portrait painting is copyrighted until 2027. Permission could be obtained from the heirs through the VRT-procedure. [edit]

These images were all uploaded by User:Hightechodap. A and B were created by AstroArts, and reproduction of the images is prohibited[3]. C was created by JAXA, and the terms of use state that you need to get permission from JAXA for anything other than private use[4]. D and E were created by SonotaCo Network, but I couldn't find any terms of use for the images in regards to these. There is no evidence of CC4.0, and it says "all right reserved". This seems to be copyright infringement[5]. F was also created by Sonotaco Network, and although the description says "Sonotaco Network waived the right to disseminate information," there is no source for this and it may be copyright infringement. G was created by IOTA and no evidence of CC4.0 was found[6]. For above reasons, I request for deletion of these files.--Senbei6304 (talk) 08:38, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment Dispositions as follows:
  •  Delete A and B per nom, the website linked and (for A) the URL in the file description all indicate the images are copyrighted, and no mention is made of CC licensing.
  •  Delete C per nom, the source URL literally says "© JAXA" in the image caption.
  •  Delete D, E, F per nom. The phrase "all rights reserved" is generally understood to mean the opposite of free licensing, and (for F) the claim "Sonotaco Network waived the right to disseminate information" sounds like the uploader's conclusion rather than a release by the copyright holder.
  •  Weak delete G per nom, definitely no evidence of CC licensing. I think this one is borderline on TOO grounds (I believe the relevant jurisdiction is the United States). The text in a circle, and circle of stars except where an opaque integration symbol (∫) overlays them, and an opaque integration symbol (∫), may be argued as falling below the TOO. I think it's enough though, and the arrangement of what would otherwise be sub-TOO elements is itself sufficiently creative.

Is this 'eigen werk' (own work)? I have some doubt. On https://zeeuwsveilinghuis.nl/geen-categorie/zeeuwse-schilders-deel-4-jan-heyse-1882-1954/ I see that the photograph was taken in 1910, so the photographer who's own work it is, must be much older than 111 years. (Probably there is no copyright anymore - if can be proven that the photographer passed away before 1951 -, but still it isn't own work.) Erik Wannee (talk) 13:13, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Old photo, claimed date is from early 1990s. Was it WayKurat's (original uploader at enwiki) self-photographed image, or was it just only a photo/scan of a photo. If latter is the case, then COM:VRT permission from the copyright holder of the photo is still required, as copyright usually remains with the photographer and not the physical owner of the photos. The year 90s is too recent to be {{PD-Philippines}}, and certainly passes U.S. copyright protection for all international works. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 08:56, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Keep The latter link above link is dead. The Public Libraries Committee (chaired by the Lord Mayor) may have commissioned the work, but they will not in any real sense be its author. That's not how UK local government works. The author is unknown, and thus this 1918 work is PD-UK. There is no "License" to query. http://archive.spectator.co.uk/article/14th-september-1918/16/mr-walter-powell-and-mr-cashmere-of-the-birmingham - This seems to suggest the work was compiled by the two senior librarians, Powell and Cashmore, so the authorship is not necessarily unknown. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:35, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Using some side searching :- https://www.richardfordmanuscripts.co.uk/keywords/cashmore
  • Walter Powell (1874-1928),
  • Herbert Maurice Cashmore (1882-1972)

So whilst it's PD-US by date of publication, it's not necessarily PD-UK due to Cashmore's contribution to it, as a work of joint authorship. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:40, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The work was "compiled under the direction of Walter Powell and Herbert Maurice Cashmore". Direction is not authorship; it's line-management. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:15, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Requested localization of the file on English Wikisource. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:43, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Weak Keep See explanation on Wikisource. As a catalogue, it is clearly not any work of creative authorship, so it is not copyrightable under that sense (see [7]: "More recently, the courts have considered a harmonised European approach based on whether a work is an expression of its author's own intellectual creation. This requires the author to make “free and creative choices” and the work to carry the “personal touch” of its author. Copyright only subsists in works that are creative." - no evidence of that here). In addition, I have looked at the authors of the preface/introduction/notes on the catalogue (arguably the only parts which are copyrightable), and the situation is murky only for one of them (further research could help clarify this). Of course, if this cannot be kept, then it can be moved to Wikisource without problem. RandomCanadian (talk) 01:19, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These files have been discussed in Wikipedia:Media copyright questions here, and it was suggested that they should be deleted. Truman Library once used to claim them as "Undetermined" or even "Unrestricted", but today, the library just claims that "The Library is unaware of any copyright claims to this item; use at your own risk."

Also, a similar image of same incident (File:Deweytruman12.jpg) has been used as a "Non-free" image on Wikipedia, clearly stating, that image is copyrighted. These three images listed above are most probably not in the public domain. — Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 06:02, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Delete, while the uploader of the nonfree file on Wikipedia certainly could just have been wrong, I am not able to find any evidence to indicate that these photographs are public domain. Given their age, they might be if certain formalities were not observed, but might be is not enough. Unless someone can find a reason to definitively believe these are PD, I believe they require deletion. Seraphimblade (talk) 08:07, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep, at least File:Dewey Defeats Truman.jpg. The Truman Library is careful in making cautious copyright claims. This photo is "The Library is unaware of any copyright claims to this item; use at your own risk."[10], other apparently comparable photos are recorded as "Copyrighted - This item is copyrighted and cannot be published, reproduced, or otherwise used without the explicit permission of the copyright holder."[11][12][13] The statement for this image is cautious merely in the same way as the Library of Congress when they use the form "No known copyright restrictions" for work they believe to be PD.[14] Preceding unsigned vote from Thincat
    • @Thincat - Well, "No known copyright restrictions" means that the Library of Congress has at-least attempted to find any copyright restrictions, but none were found. But, when the Truman Library explicitly says "use at your own risk", it doesn't mean that it the file is in the public domain. Even if the Truman Library is careful in making cautious copyright claims, so are they in making public domain claims.[15][16][17] But in all the above three files, they simply don't claim anything. If you are sure that the above images are in the public domain, we'll need more details about its author ... -- Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 09:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure they they say that but in all those cases they go on to say "Note: If you use this image, rights assessment and attribution are your responsibility.". BTW it is publication details, not authorship, that determine copyright status for 1948 US photographs. Thincat (talk) 14:11, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • In this case, all three files claim PD status since they were made by a US federal government employee acting within their official duties. If that's true, the images are indeed PD, but for that, the identity of the author most certainly matters very much. If the author was not a government employee acting in their official capacity, that claim is incorrect. Seraphimblade (talk) 21:48, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
        • Note that for US copyrights in that era, specific copyright notices to be both registered with the US government and published with the media. Material from this era where these conditions were not met have followed have defaulted into the public domain. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:46, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete. Per Seraphimblade and my comments at w:en:WP:MCQ, the Truman library says they don't know; we need a more affirmative answer than that to treat it as PD. No objection to transfer to English Wikipedia if anyone wishes to make a fair use claim for them. TheFeds 06:47, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: Despite this, there is also a significant possibility that these are PD due to non-registration or publication without a copyright notice. If anyone can find where, when and how these were first published, they might be acceptable. TheFeds 06:47, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and upload locally, per nomination; evidence of public domain claim is too weak. Hog Farm (talk) 17:54, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep agree with Thincat, also note this is the part of the US National Archives & Records Administration. I suggest NARA image copyright status statements be taken similarly to US Library of Congress copyright statements - default that they are correct unless we have some specific indication they made an error in a individual cases. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:47, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sure, NARA claims are usually considered reliable, but can you find any of the above 3 images on NARA. I tried using a standard search, but couldn't. Even there respective image pages on commons don't provide a specific NARA accession number. If these images are indeed in the PD, then the fair use rational#1 for this image would fail. If there is any way you could prove these image to be in the PD, please do! I really want to see this image on the main page. -- Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 17:12, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete all. We need more proof than a statement that they aren't aware of restrictions on copyright status. If we had a narrative description of the analysis of the images that the Truman Library performed before coming to their conclusion, that might be one thing, but we don't. What's more, the file descriptions don't even say who the photographer or original publisher is. It just says that the library claims ownership (≠ copyright).
The arguments above, that the generic statement that the library is unaware of copyright claims is proof of any significant analysis, strikes me as a bit too much reading of the tea leaves. I'm also reminded of the all-too-common issue of images uploaded and tagged as PD-USGov merely because they were used on a federal government website. And no, I do not believe we should take the Truman Library's statement with the same weight we might give a statement of the LoC, if only because it is within LoC's institutional mission and experience to make determinations as to who a copyright holder is for registered works, and their determinations are far more likely to be presumed correct by the courts. This is not the case for NARA or the Truman Library.
The fact of the matter is that, within most industry, the library's statement and a good faith attempt by the publisher to confirm the image is out of copyright would probably be sufficient. Commons, however, applies more strict standards than "Will we get sued?" or "Will someone complain?" On the basis of what we have in front of us, I do not believe we can satisfy the Commons standard for accepting something as PD. 69.174.144.79 21:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted: per nomination, COM:PRP. None of the photos were positively shown to be in the public domain. The files can be restored in 2044 with {{PD-US-expired}}. --Rosenzweig τ 07:41, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

False info by uploader: author identified by signature on image; studio portrait w artistic value evident SergeWoodzing (talk) 18:24, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The same rationale is used for more pictures with the same signature (File:Gustaf_VI_Adolf_av_Sverige_som_kronprins.jpg, File:Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Westrobothnia.jpg, there may be more). It seems that the signature is that of sv:Atelier Jaeger (see [18]). This would mean that the photographer is sv:Herrman Sylwander, who owned the firm from 1908 to his death in 1948. The photographs are then in PD as it has been more than 70 years since his death.

Please change the info on the image page accordingly. The problem is the incorrect info there. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: per discussion. It seems very likely to assume that the owner and head photographer of that studio would photograph the king. --Rosenzweig τ 07:28, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This file was initially tagged by Nathaniel Filip as Speedy (speedydelete) and the most recent rationale was: Mazaní vlastního díla
Converted to regular DR, as file does not qualify for speedy. -- Túrelio (talk) 08:17, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to delete my own work. Nathaniel Filip (talk) 18:39, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: "my own work", "not my own work" - I'm not sure what to believe here, please make up your mind. Please sort this out per e-mail with COM:VRT if really necessary, though I doubt it's really urgent since half a year has passed since this DR was opened. --Rosenzweig τ 07:47, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
