Appears to be a picture of identifiable children/teenagers, taken surreptitiously and/or without consent at a coffee shop. Whether it should fall under COM:DIGNITY is unclear, but it seems like something that raises COM:PEOPLE problems regardless. It is also a rather low quality picture, despite being in use (at the moment). The original Flickr upload's description is also a little disturbing regarding the photographer's perspective. — Rhododendrites talk | 17:23, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Delete as a 'candid shot' (read - taken without consent) of identifiable minors. The photo quality is poor, and I have to wonder what encyclopedic value a picture of a bunch of teenagers adds to the enwiki article on youth culture anyway. ƒirefly ( t · c ) 17:31, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Delete Per nom. And I can't say I'm an expert on how the Flickr Upload Bot does its business but if this is what we can expect I'd say this needs looking into. Merely existing and having the right license isn't a reason to upload creepshots. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:51, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

The image was taken before Ossoff took office. The image has been used in articles dating back to September 2020 and even October 2020. No proof this is in public domain. Stalin990 (talk) 03:57, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- This photo can be seen on Ossoff's Congressional Biographical Directory page. I did a Google search for it this morning, and other places where it's available include: Jon Ossoff says federal government deserves 'F' for handling of COVID-19 pandemic"; and "Atlanta Press Club to host Georgia Senate runoff debates". I didn't do anything special when I saved it from the Congressional Bio site, so if there's a question or concern, I don't know how to respond. That said, it sure seems to me that if it's on the Congressional Bio site, it's in the public domain.

alleged photographs of Morgellons disease symptoms
[edit]- File:Bacterie 10.jpg, File:Parasiet0186.jpg, File:Worm0074.jpg, File:Worm34.jpg and other files by User:Lifenext in Category:Morgellons
- File:Morgellans-Sample from author.jpg, File:Morgellans-Samples LargeClump 16-01-2015.jpg, File:Morgellons - Coccon like structure.jpg, File:Morgellons - epidermal tissue from author.jpg, and other files by User:Rodroger in Category:Morgellons
These images were uploaded by unknown users without indicating any sources claiming that they show symptoms of the so-called "Morgellons disease", which is scientifically regarded as a so-called delusional parasitosis, see en:Morgellons. This means that the photos are possibily doctored and/or show something entirely different, meaning that they are out of scope for Commons. --Gnom (talk) 14:03, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

While the photo is high-res, it's missing the camera EXIF data and a UNC logo is stamped on the uncropped version. Doubtful that this is a freely licensed work.

Vanity pic by non contributor on rejected vanity draft on en WP. Out of scope. No evidence that the image is under an acceptable free licence. Ownership or possession of a photo, proprietorship of the equipment used to take the photo, or being the subject of the photo does not equate holding the copyright. The copyright holder is the photographer (i.e. the person who took the photo), rather that the subject (the person who appears in the photo) or the person possessing the photo, unless transferred by operation of law (e.g. inheritance, etc.) or by contract (written and signed by the copyright holder, and explicitly transfers the copyright). - Speedy keep - The original image was uploaded in 2007 and there's nothing on webarchive so good luck finding a source for it!. Obviously since 2007 times have changed and things here have become a lot more stricter so this file shouldn't be deleted because of the lack of care in 2007. The file includes metadata etc so I see no reason to think this wouldn't be the uploaders work or work that was originally on the Brasil website. –Davey2010Talk 13:07, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Bong Bajo Flickrstream still exists at Flickr (but with 3 separate accounts [1] / [2] and [3]) A few glance of his images on Flickr show his uploads as "All Rights Reserved" and bearing the same watermark email info. The image itself is absent from Flickr, perhaps he took this image down from his Flickr stream/s, but as TinEye detected it still exists at "farm9.static.flickr.com". we have no OTRS authorization from Calixte Culot, the author of the book 86.199.179.203 11:11, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- The photo is from 1912 and Calixte Culot was born in 1926 so I think we can safely assume that he is not the photographer. The real question is who the original photographer is and when he or she died. --MGA73 (talk)
- Indeed: Calixte Culot has just died (2020). We can ask permission to the editor, Musée de la Parole en Ardenne (contact@museedelaparole.be) whose secretary, Joël Thiry accepted some years ago, that the front covers of all books in Walloon published by their N.G.O. would be uploaded in Commons (we made a user name, but neither he or I ever used it).
- If the question is about the postcard, these where mostly taken in the 1920's or 1930's, sometimes earlier (later on, in the 1950's 1960's, they would be in colour). Can't we use an old files status ?
- --Lucyin (talk) 12:21, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

The user clearly did not make this map, as it is a very accurate road map and contains text in Portuguese. It was probably stolen from ICM Bio do Brasil, which has maps similar to this one, as in this publication here: https://www.icmbio.gov.br/portal/images/stories/plano-de-manejo/plano_de_manejo_vol_1_diagnostico_flona_de_humaita.pdf Uiaka (talk) 13:36, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- This is assuming bad faith, but I suppose I should take this nomination as compliment: "delete because no user would have done that good a map". I did in fact make this map, painstakingly, using Inkscape. At the time I was starting or expanding a series of Wikipedia articles on the protected areas in Brazil such as Lago do Cuniã Extractive Reserve, and also on the BR-319 highway that ran through the interfluvial, and wanted to illustrate the region. The map is based on other, more detailed maps. I have never mastered curves in Inkscape, so if you zoom in you will see that all the outlines take the form of linked straight line sections which are all my own, as is the choice of colors and font, placement of labels etc. Some of the text is in Portuguese because the names of the protected areas are Portuguese. There is no copyright violation. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:15, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

- My argument about using "idealized" or "conceptual" images are as follows"--Audioboss (talk) 00:37, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
"Many scholars believe that Cesare Borgia was the basis for some depictions of Jesus that eventually became the standard look that is used until today."
"Pope Alexander lV then ordered the destruction of all art depicting a Semitic Jesus and commissioned a number of paintings depicting a Caucasian Jesus. His son, Cardinal Cesare Borgia, was the model for these paintings. Thus, the nastiest of all the Borgias, became the iconic Caucasian Jesus so loved by Christians today."
** Should we remove all Jesus Christ's related images in wikipedia because surely no one really knows what he looks like?
Moreover, most depiction of dinosaurs and extinct fauna are mostly "conceptualized" and "ideal" based on limited fossil specimen.
Should we remove all dinosaurs photos in wikipedia because most of them are "artist" conceptualization?
There is no "hoax" or "malicious" misleading that you implied in your presentation. Hoax means "to trick into believing or accepting as genuine something false and often preposterous" (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hoax). I have put all full disclosure in the description that images are either "based on historical images" or artistic "conceptualization" or "rendering".
Surely, we are all entitled to our own opinions and perspectives. I am the source of all the "derived" and "conceptualized" images of historical people. The images which I draw digitally from scratch from my sketchpad to the computer. Respectfully, the idea is not to mislead or hoax people. The depiction of the images does not claim that those are the exact likeness of the people rather "idealized" or "conceptual" only. --Audioboss (talk) 21:04, 2 April 2020 (UTC) If my research integrity is in question, I am a professional artist who has done artwork for international exhibitions and also a scientist who works for a Medical hospital and has done academic discourses in history and microbiology. --Audioboss (talk) 00:37, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

- I strongly disagree with making up a likeness for a historical person if none exist! That is no different than making up details about a person just because it is not known. Misleading or wrong info is worse than no info. And this has nothing to do with culture. Your personal artwork is not important and significant in preserving Filipino cultural history. In fact, I do consider as misleading, a hoax.
- Furthermore, OTRS doesn't apply to historical images. You must provide proof of date/source/author for those. --P 1 9 9 ✉ 13:37, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Delete The first batch, the conceptualizations, have no place on Commons. There is no educational purpose to be served by keeping imaginary images of famous people.
The second batch, which are all based on existing images have the same problem -- why would we want these in place of actual images? Further, none of them give the source -- in each case it must be proven that the source image is freely licensed or PD.
Also note that TIF is deprecated for image use on Commons, so in order to keep them, someone will have to convert them to JPG. . Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 20:46, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
I can convert all to jpeg---Audioboss (talk) 21:05, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Jameslwoodward: One image (File:General Gregorio Tapalla.tif) has a freely licensed source in the artist's Flickr page. I would suggest @Audioboss: to do the same for other images. However, if the arts are COM:DW of some photos, then the status of original photos also needs to be resolved. Ankry (talk) 07:22, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- It's actually better to convert them to PNG first, because it's more efficient in compression while being lossless like TIF. It's always important to have a "master" version to edit on in order to prevent quality loss, and PNG can do that. That's if these images will be kept though. pandakekok9 09:44, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 03:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Greetings- for the most part of my involvement with Wikicommons, I have always complied with the administrators. The body of my work that you have marked for deletion are all derivative works that I have done. All of the ones in these list, I have noted their sources as either from historical documents and photos in public domain especially the derived works of the Generals from documents and image files (1890-1910). On my derived works, I have images of photos and sketches that I took while I was either a student or while I was attending the conferences with these people depicted. Almost all of of them published with my name in local papers, circular, and dailies. So, I thought that derivative works from own personal photos, drawings, and images are okay to use as long as description of ownership are disclosed. I do admit that there were few of my project was deleted because I thought that my rational for using other materials will be fine because of disclosures of copyright rational. I speedy deleted them myself. Derivative works are not acceptable with Wikicommons? I even ask OTRS and was granted in several of them so that I can clarify its usage. Many have them have been in Wikicommons for years with several revisions and copyright info updated by admins and other users.
- I do feel that a certain user was hounding and harassing me personally for several reasons:
- Instead of communicating with me directly about my contributions, the user nominated me for blocking or blacklisting me right away.
- Even after I send the user a scanned copy of one of my sources from Spartan Daily with my name as contributor for one of my derived work. He accused me of fakery without forensic study of my work. He probably used tineye or google image web app that does not really detect subtleties in photos. I provided a scanned copy of my newspaper clipping with my name as contributor and it was deemed a fake. this is just total conjecture.
- Because the majority of my contributions were derived, they were all evaluated as fake without carefully evaluating the summary and info that is provided in the files.
- Even my own photographs from my Iphone for the Philippine dances were conjured as fake, noting that I faked the EXIF files.
- I even explained to the user who questioned my metadata that since the work is derived, I have those as composite scanned images for better resolution and workflow.
- If derivative works and illustrations (e.g. File:Pacifichelys urbinai.jpg which I drew from my Paleontology class) can be branded as fake because a user does not like my contributions. What about my rights as a user and contributor?
- I have been a financial contributor and a long time user with many editing contributions to Wiki. I do not have conflicts of interest or financial gains as my contributions are my academic interests. Please be aware the randomness of my works- I usually try to contribute to pages with less information about the people being depicted. I try to provide images for people to see, if I have the person available in my collection of my own photographs. Notice that several of my contributions were people in the science, politics, or entertainers because I am a microbiologist and sociologist and I have seen these people from symposiums and I love going to concerts and interviews. This personal attack , hounding, and bullying is quite disturbing. You may want to check the language and the tone that the user used to communicate with me during the discussion. The communication was not cordial rather accusatory with flimsy evidence and no further inquiries or technical analysis at all. --Audioboss (talk) 04:41, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- The source for File:Irina Korschunow.jpg, which you uploaded in 2014 as your own work, is here. Are we done now? Mo Billings (talk) 06:17, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Please be aware that Philippine Generals were from sources over 100 years old and were taken from microfiche and really in poor quality. Moreover, some of them were taken from sources available throughout the internet and are in public domain in US and Philippines since they are over 100 years old. Philippine Revolution was from 1896-1910 any original photos and documents from this era is already public domain.

- Images used were from Government official site considered public domain and fair use in the Philippines therefore acceptable here in US too.
- Most of information are noted in permission and summary info. These are almost all my contribution. Can you be patient with me. I have to pull every file I have to search for the info that you need.
- With all respect, if I have to defend my contributions, can I also file grievance against harassment from the user that initiated this? I do not mind the bother but if I feel that I am doing all this trouble for something frivolous and chronic then there is no point for me to continue contributing to this voluntary endeavor. --Audioboss (talk) 06:15, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- File:Leslie Randall.jpg for this work I used a sketch that I made in late 1980s or mid 1980s when I attended a writer's symposium in LA. Most of the works that you flagged are done with composite and rendering software to appear photo like. The raw file is here https://www.flickr.com/photos/44518673@N00/51074298482/in/dateposted-public/
- Now, for the David Roback file - I used my photo that was used in my school paper Spartan Daily. I was one of the photo contributor. The file of the clipping is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/44518673@N00/51068958211/in/dateposted-public/ . You can see my name under the photo for credit.
- It appears that even if I validate all the works , It is going to be deleted anyway because it may not be in The Scope of contribution needed. It seems that the only media that Wikicommons wanted are real photographs. I thought that derivative works are accepted; but it appears that derivative works are very hard to contribute because some users do not want them for personal reason or bias. I do not use this contribution to "advertise" my art. The commercial aspect of my art does not include portraits of famous people. My art is not commercialize anyway because I am a mail artist , I just exchange art with other artist primarily. If I have few art in the gallery- The style is abstract and surreal. I do not even advertise my contributions in Wikicommons. I do not mention my projects for Wikicommons in my CV or website. To me, this is just pure academic. Any admin can request to see my personal webpages for inspection via personal email only for my privacy protection. --Audioboss (talk) 19:14, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- The source for the face in File:Leslie Randall.jpg can be seen here. As per usual, it is a digital collage with filters applied. It should be obvious to anyone familiar with image editing that the "sketch" on Flickr is could not be the source for the image uploaded here and has been freshly created to disguise yet another instance of copyright violation by Audioboss. Are we done here yet? This is getting tiresome and could have been dealt with at ANU where I started the discussion. Mo Billings (talk) 21:12, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

- Composite derivative images are acceptable because:
- Source material: Photographs of Anita Linda by anonymous photographer circa 1940s
- According to the IP Code of the Philippines (Act No. 8293) (2015 Edition),
- Photographic works are protected for 50 years from the publication of the work and, if unpublished, for 50 years from the making.
- The composite images represent a portrait of the actress and a background of her still in performance which represents her as an actress.
- This does not advertise self-promotion because I did not put any signature that denotes self publishing. Furthermore, I use my generic username for credit. --Audioboss (talk) 08:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

- Delete all. For the so-called historical photos, Audioboss continues to prevail a claim that every old photo of the Philippines found on web may be freely used. That is wrong: publication date may be later than public domain. Even if these are {{PD-Philippines}} here, these may have had their U.S. copyrights restored (COM:URAA). Commons requires images and its underlying artworks to be free both in the source country (for this case the Philippines) and the United States. Images, paintings, drawings, and other artistic works that are free here but not in the U.S. are actually unacceptable here. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 12:09, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Please forgive me for resorting to a deletion request, but could it be that this picture is a copyright violation? It depicts a work of art by a living artist. Did the Children's Museum of Indianapolis have the artist's permission to upload a picture of her artwork under a free license? Thanks, Gnom (talk) 14:45, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- I came here through the notice at the meta:Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network. Although this media came from a Wikimedian in Residence project, we have consensus that staff Wikimedians at organizations want exactly the same treatment as anyone else, so please treat this accordingly.
- Optional but nice practice includes pinging the uploader and the host institution of the situation.
- Regardless of whether the host institution has permission, this file on Commons does not indicate permission, and consequently the file should be deleted unless we confirm copyright license. We have permission from the museum for the photograph; we require additionally permission for the work depicted in the photograph. Requiring this permission demonstrates respect for the artist.
- I looked for the artist's contact but could not find a direct one. I only found galleries selling this person's work, and I doubt based on experience that they would quickly understand a copyright release as well as the legal team from the museum donating the photo. Various stained glass artworks of this church were added during the renovation of 2019 (the windows were plain before that). Fail {{PD-Philippines-artistic work}}. If COM:OTRS permission from the craftsmen is impossible, restore these only if Freedom of Panorama is introduced here officially and formally.

[edit]The blanket statement "because the architect had wished it to be copyleft" is not enough and doesn't comply with COM:L which requires an explicit commercial license from the architect and that such license is specific and irrevocable. If the architect doesn't allow its inclusion in commercial postcards and advertising materials, then this building is still unfree for Commons. There is no acceptable FOP in France, its architect is still living. See an admin's opposing input to my undeletion attempt at Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive/2021-03#File:Opera bastille.JPG. - Comment If the architect have made a valid statement, that this is copyleft then I think we can keep it. If someone write to us directly via OTRS we should of course try to make them select a specific license etc. But is the statement is not send directly to us I think we should not reject it just because it does not meet our current practice. I bet many old OTRS permissions would not be accepted today for example.
- If the architect is alive then pehaps someone that speak French could send a nice mail asking for clarification if needed. --MGA73 (talk) 06:41, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- MGA73 I'm not sure if this will work. Per elcobbola at my failed undeletion attempt, "COM:L requires an explicit license and that such license is specific and irrevocable. Statement that 'the architect had wished it to be copyleft' does not meet these criteria and is entirely inadequate." I realize that it is indeed inadequate because we don't know what type of license does w:Carlos Ott authorize in his blanket statement. CC-BY/CC-BY-SA/PD, or the Commons-unacceptable CC licenses with "NC" (no-commercial) or "ND" (no-derivatives) conditions? A French-speaking (since the architectural artwork is in France) or Spanish-speaking (since the architect hails from a Spanish-speaking country) is encouraged to conduct correspondence to the architect. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 04:27, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- JWilz12345 I have not seen the wording of the statement so I can't decide if it is good enough. I just wanted to point out that I do not think we should not be super strict regarding permissions that is not send to us directly. When someone send a permission to OTRS we can be strict because we can easily ask them to clarify and they can easily reply. We can't do that if the statement is not send to us directly. If it is unclear what is meant then I think we should use the least free license instead of just assuming he meant PD. But regarding copyleft then if you read en:Copyleft#Copyleft_principles then it says that it allows derivative works and it is even more clear in the table at en:Copyleft#Types_and_relation_to_other_licenses that "copyleft" does not include NC or ND.

- According to Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle we should delete if there is "significant doubt about the freedom". It does not mean we should delete all files where ther is the slightest risk.
- So in my opinion we can Keep if we can prove that he did make a statemt and if he did use the word copyleft. However if it is just the uploader that say "I once met him on the street and he told me that he would like his work to be free" then I would Delete. --MGA73 (talk) 08:02, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

If it helps any, here is the English translation (from this updated link):
- “We can understand the photographer's anger when we know that among recent monuments only the Bastille Opera House can be freely photographed. The architect (an original?) wanted it to be free of rights. Normally, the copyright of architects is required until seventy years after their death. But when a new 'artist' adds his or her contribution to an old building, it's back to the drawing board... This is typically the case with the Eiffel Tower. To reproduce a photo of this national icon at night, you must first pay a fee to the lighting company, the Société nouvelle d'exploitation de la tour Eiffel. The reason? The lighting, let it be said, is a "work of the soul". At least since a ruling by the Créteil High Court in March 1998. In the same way, fireworks and other sounds and lights are also protected... A bit of an exaggeration?”
Furthermore, from the 'What Can you Photograph in Paris?' official Paris City Hall webpage:
- "The panorama exception allows copyright to be neutralised for photographs of architectural works and sculptures permanently placed on public thoroughfares (thus ephemeral works are not included) provided that the photograph is not used for commercial purposes."
As for what really is (or isn't) 'copyleft' or not (for any country), 'istockphoto' (getty images) is (also) a good reference: in the link, notice that none of their Eiffel tower images include its lighting, because the SNTE (Société Nouvelle de la Tour Eiffel) does demand authors' rights for images taken of its lighting additions to the tower. And since Getty straight-out sells images, you can be sure that they know that they would be at the top of the target list for any architect seeking royalties/authors' rights. Cheers. THEPROMENADER 08:49, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @ThePromenader: I don't think it is sufficient. To quote the opposing input of Elcobbola (one of Commons' veteran admins) over a deleted image of this same building I was trying to restore then: "COM:L requires an explicit license and that such license is specific and irrevocable. Statement that "the architect had wished (or wanted) it to be copyleft" does not meet these criteria and is entirely inadequate." I think the only question us what degree of freeness does the architect wished? Free photography is out of question. Perhaps free, unrestricted commercial exploitations of images of his work is the thing here. Perhaps the true question is: is architect w:Carlos Ott willing to release his architectural work under free license or public domain in the way that everyone can take photos and exploit the resulting images freely even for commercial purposes? And is his desire to release his work under copyleft perpetual/for eternity? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 07:32, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- As for the Eiffel Tower at night, all of the deleted images of it here were recently restored, on the grounds that the current lighting is too ordinary to pass COM:TOO France, and that the court ruling actually refers to a specific lighting during the 90s (if I can recall correctly). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 07:34, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- Question Does anyone have the actual quote/statement from the architect that they have waived their (copy)rights? -M.nelson (talk) 20:41, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
Deleted: per nomination. There is no Freedom of Panorama in France, per COM:FOP France. We would need a clear statement from the architect. This would be good for the free content lobby. But "copyleft"is too vague to rely on. --Ellywa (talk) 21:13, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

The photo was previously deleted for not having a license (tagged by me), but I restored it to allow discussion. Per Special:PermaLink/546479250#Re_deletion_of_Ray_Martin_Orchestra_Leader_photo, it might be in the public domain. According to w:en:Ray Martin (orchestra leader), the subject, Ray Martin, "became an arranger and composer for the Royal Air Force Band" and he was active from 1940s to 1980s, so the photo might be in the PD (see COM:CROWN). That may be the case, but I still think we need stronger evidence to prove it really is free. Ahmadtalk 00:27, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
I've found this photo online which was taken in the 1950s: shorturl.at/uHOPV As you can see, Ray is noticeably older in that photo, meaning that the one I provided must therefore be in the public domain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theenglishway88 (talk • contribs) 01:39, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

- @M.nelson it is a corporate logo from here (the Philippines). "St. Lucia" is the name of a real estate/housing company here, not the Caribbean country. We do not have clear TOO. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 23:48, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
