- Hello EugeneZelenko, I cannot even understand what bothers you. All necessary information is provided for these 17th century documents. I met the people at the library (Médiathèque protestante de Strasbourg) 2 days ago. They said I should take the pictures from Flickr. - The image is a part of a question from a textbook, and the surrounding text defines "R" as "reduction" (read as "what is the product of reduction of the given structure?"). Totally non-standard, and I don't see a COM:EDUSE here. User:CFCF appears to have uploaded the whole set of images from the whole textbook (Category:CNX Chemistry Textbook), but apparently not the book itself and definitely no attempt at curation of that collection. - Keep as per OGL This was taken by the Official RN photographer at the Fleet Headquarters, Northwood. I have written to the Photographic Department at Northwood and they are working on finding a way to give me permission.
- Later. Northwood-man could not possibly have been more helpful and was very much in favour of me using this image, but it has reached the point where I have to contact the MOD to take this further. The options open to me, without going to the MOD, would appear to be these:
- 1) The Crown Copyright expires at the end of April 2022, at which time there are no copyright restrictions on this image. This will mean I can use it then, but in the meantime...
- 2) Would Wikipedia host it, where it is, along the lines of the NPG image of Cyril Lloyd - i.e. under a different licence (not free to use), until less than two years from now? Who looks at my userpage - nobody really - so not being on a main page might mean this would be acceptable? I truly hope so.
- 3) The Mary Ann Mansel letters are hosted externally on the Robert Manners page, via a pdf. link. Northwood-man suggested I do something along these lines by creating a pdf. document - and that's the thing - it would no longer be a photograph, but rather a document. Although Northwood-man thinks this would be fine, copyright-wise, I would still have to double-check with MOD. I am not keen on this idea at all. It defeats the purpose of what I have created on my userpage - my life-achievements (although mainly Asgill related). Others have masses of wikvi-qualifications - degrees - impressive jobs - and other things to be proud of. For me, my service to Queen and country means a lot to me. And, by the way, the Northwood-man says that lots and lots of images, taken by him, are all over Wikipedia with no accreditation to him. He has no idea how this has been possible. - Delete The fact that the newspaper ceased publication does not mean the copyrights go away; they can be sold off for example. I hesitate to delete something marked PD by an institution like that, but looking through images in the same photo stream, they have album covers by Britney Spears, Elton John, the Spice Girls, and others, along with other magazine covers, and a photo of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle doll. - Right. The ILN archive has been housed at Mary Evans since a management buyout of the ILN Publishing Group from its former parent company, Sea Containers, in December 2007. So they bought the copyrights. In March 2010, Cengage Learning launched a full digitised Illustrated London News, allowing researchers unprecedented online access to this invaluable historical resource. Available through universities and subscribing libraries and institutions. [...] Image licensing continues to be handled by Mary Evans Picture Library and researchers requesting high resolution images via Cengage for reproduction will be referred back to us. In other words, they are making it available for researchers through universities etc. but will charge for anything commercial. They are not remotely a "free" license (which has nothing to do with cost, but the rights that other users have), so they can't be hosted here. The Hartlepool Museum does not own any copyright and cannot license it. At most, they are licensing the photographic copies they made, which probably do not rise to copyright at all in some/most countries. There are a bunch of adjacent items in their photo stream which are also mostly certainly under copyright by others. I doubt seriously the museum owns the rights to a Spice Girls album cover, for example. When it comes to the photo of the doll, they can release their rights to the photo, but it's still a derivative work of the doll and commercial use would still be a problem, so we'd need a license from that copyright owner too. I am the author of four photos. These photos depict the events taking place in Riga on Victory Square. The composition of these photographs includes small FRAGMENTS of a large architectural and sculptural ensemble.
- I believe that the images of these fragments do not violate (do not limit, do not infringe) the copyrights of the authors of this large memorial complex ( The Latvian Copyright Law - 2000).
- I am the author of these photos. I am the author of the compositional solution to these files. I authorize the use of these photographs for commercial purposes.

- Delete @Clindberg: The Universitätsbibliothek might be the creator of the COM:DW (but per PD-art we don't care about the creator of such 2D-DWs). The real artist of the artwork is not the Universitätsbibliothek (translated: Univerity Library), but Edmund Kesting. There is no evidence that the Library has "taken over" the copyright from the artist, or his heirs. [edit]It is well established here that a work that is located in a Federal building or was commissioned by the Federal government may or may not be PD. In order to qualify as PD US Gov, it must be shown that the artist was a Federal employee at the time of creation. See, for example, the note at Category:Official presidential painted portraits in the White House.
The creator of this work, Jay Matternes is not now and apparently never was an employee of the Federal government. While it is possible that these works is PD No Notice or PD No Renewal, I note that Matternes has 121 entries in the USCO post-1977 database of registrations and renewals, which strongly suggests that he pays attention to copyright.

- In the case of File:Stegomastodon mirificus - Smithsonian.JPG, the artwork is partially visible in the background, is not well displayed, and is incidental to the unrelated subject of the photo, which is of a fossil gomphothere skeleton. In every other example listed, the artwork is the subject of the photo. While I suppose the artwork could be blanked out if needed, in this case that hardly seems necessary. The document (file RWWA) is from The Foundation of Rhine-Westphalia Economy Archive of Cologne - this is a public archive/Chamber of Commerce record. From rwwa.de website it states: "RWWA is basically accessible to any visitor with a scientific interest. The use of our archive is free." Their regulations do not seem to prohibit its use here. The original author of the document was the company "Eau de Cologne & Parfümerie Fabrik Glockengasse No. 4711 gegenüber der Pferdepost von Ferd. Mülhens in Köln am Rhein", which was based in Germany at the time but has long since ceased trading. It was created in March 1954 (over 65 years ago). The tag has been corrected to reflect this (changed to Public Domain). If this needs to be amended for any reason, please let me know so that I can update accordingly.
The historical photograph (file Selima and Edward Fram) belongs to me, Dr. F. E. Fram. It is from my family archive and I have the complete rights to the image and its use.
