I created the Cat PDF files in 2009 or 10 and most here can be put into legitimate categories. - Keep per Josve05a. I think it is a good thing that User:1989 is trying to clean up uncategorized files but this is not the best way. For example it only took me 5 seconds to find a category for File:Elephant beach at Havelock.JPG. The description says "Elephant beach at Havelock Island..." and Category:Havelock Island is a good category for the file. I bet if we all spend 5 minutes to check random files in Category:All media needing categories as of 2012 then we can fix many of the files. It is impossible for an iPhone to have taken the photo prior to 1994 when the aircraft stopped being used. Several non-trivial logos claimed to be PD because of inegibility (File:AzPFL_logo.jpg), claims that files are released under CC without evidence (File:Isa Gambar (1).jpg), files supposed to be in PD because of age but undated (File:Pənahəli xan.jpg) or created long after the limit for copyright expiry (File:Səməd Vurğun (Pekin, 1955).jpg). And Peshawar Nights is a Shi'a book by Sultanu'l-Wa'izin Shirazi[1] ("Prince of Preachers from Shiraz")[2] recounts a public debate between Shi'a Muslims and Sunni Muslims. The debate took place in the city of Peshawar in the North-West Frontier Province (present-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) in Pakistan of British India beginning on 27 January 1927. References 2015-1927=88. After 5 years, the copyright is expired and in 2015 the state publishes a bestseller containg the photos of the poor guy. --> ??

- Considering also Commons:Deletion requests/File:Arevalo.png (a donation case) there is no proof that the state, public entities (etc.) were declared new owners of the copyrights via a "respective declaration" from the original copyright holder and did not use it (the copyright) in a five year period. Most of the files were taken from a private FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/287826347977264 where members are posting old pictures from their own archives or photos taken from the Internet — all with unclear copyright status as original publication source, date and/or photographer are (mostly) not given. - Keep Generally, for old and interesting photographs, it is reasonable to keep multiple prints. Digital editors may improve the image given multiple prints and reduce later damage or compensate for moiré patterns from the printing process. - That’s a good approach and I cannot fault it in general. In this case, however, the October republication is done in an inferior medium (the very same plate on coarser paper with oilier ink — it is the weekly supplement, not the monthly issue, after all): If this image is in any way better than the other, it stems from scanning artifacts (for which there’s a caveat in every page); the ideal solution here (short of a scan of the original film cliche, of course) would be a new scan, and the best original for it is the June edition, not the October one. - This file is a flag; their (Arakan Army's) national symbol, and neither I nor they (the Arakan Army) claim any copyrights on it. I understand will accept the decision made, if this file is deleted. However, I see no issues with it that cannot be fixed. The reason why I (the uploader) changed the source to "own" is because I did not understand how to upload a free image that is not copyrighted. I thought I had uploaded with a copyright claim (which does not exist). The original source links to the Arakan's Army's webpage.

- Schraut died on November 9, 1923. Therefore the image must have been created prior to this date. Regarding the question of whether the image is in the public domain or not, we must look at the legal situation when the picture was created. At that time, the Culture Act of 1907 was still in power (for http://www.fotorecht.de/publikationen/kug.html). The KUG initially envisaged a protection period of 10 years for photos (or 25 years, if the picture was not published). Thus, the image was public domain in Germany since 1933 (or 1948, when it was not published). However, on 12th May 1940 an extention of the protection period to 25 years came into power. However, this extention was only applicable, if the rights have not been expired. If the picture was published, the rights have already been expired. Only if the picture was not published, the protection period was extend to 25 years after the death of the photographer. On 1st January 1966 it was extend to 70 years (but only, if the rights have not been expired). In 1995 it was extend to 80 post mortem of the photographer (§ 137 f Abs. 2 UrhG with regards to Spainish legislation).
- Conclusion: If the picture was published, it was public domain from 1933 to 1995. And it will be in public domain again (and if the picture was not published) 80 years after the death of the photographer (in 2015, when he died in 1935 or earlier). Dear Stefan4, I'm happy for your observations about the copyright in the file "May 22, 1907". But I pray the whole community to consider that the owner of those documents I am. In fact neither the document nor the logo copyright I never registered in any country in the world. Also the original documents of which they own and are currently in my possession, they in agreement between me and the Italian Air Force Museum all these documents in the coming weeks pass at the Museum. The intent of both because it is a Museum is to make documents available to the public. Useful for those who wish to do research and copies and publications. I myself won't hold any copies for me. When and if I need more information I will go to the Museum. Finally, given that the original material is also made of silver plates also of photographic film also contact sheets that are older than a hundred years they need to be restored. And last but not least because Italy for museums to theaters for art for the archaeological sites they say they have not more money / I am the one paying with my foundation restoration of documents and organize the site for storing documents. As far as there is no absolute vacuum May 22, 1907 between 1900 and 1923. First because in Italy the Military Aviation was founded by Decree of King in 1923. Second because the production of both aircraft (Hydroplane) that were that were Airships Hyd designed and built and tested at Vigna di Valle. The designers were Officers of the military engineers ' army. They are the same who founded the Italian Airforce in 1923. Third and last because over one thousand five hundred documents between 1900 and 1923 belong and are subscribed to me. Neither my grandfather nor my father nor I until today we all wanted to leave this museum documentation. Of course, the reason for this denial is strictly private. So I'm not in agreement with you to delete the two files because when I have finished uploading my archives the public could better understand how from 1900 arrived at 2015. So what do we do? An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). - Delete While copying public records is not copyright infringement, that is not the same thing as public domain. There are no implied commercial rights or in particular derivative rights. The scope of fair use or fair dealing on such works would therefore be pretty wide, but it is still not public domain. That is basically like a section in copyright law which allows libraries to use and copy works for limited purposes; this is a somewhat limited exception to allow anyone from the public to view and inspect public records (and copy them to allow others to do the same), but not necessarily use such works for any use they want. Note that public records often come from material outside the government (evidence in court cases etc.) and use of such works would definitely be restricted to uses related to their public record status. Even in the U.S., there are only a couple of states whose public record laws have been considered broad enough to basically defeat copyright protection; for most states we assume state government works are still copyrighted even though most are public records. Hong Kong basically inherited Crown Copyright for government works from UK law; other than bills which become law, it looks like, governments usually own copyright for 50 years from creation or publication depending on the circumstance. - There are several files ending in "Pressure.gif", "Pressure.png", and "Wind.png" and a number of others which look like simple line graphs -- I think those are PD-ineligible. The related radar, wind, and precipitation files might be more based on the underlying map copyright. There are a lot of road signs... many of those may also be PD-ineligible, though probably not all of them. The flag and emblem ones (File:Flag of Hong Kong.svg, File:P Hong Kong.png, File:Hong Kong SAR Regional Emblem.svg, File:Hong Kong Bauhinia Flag (Navy Blue).svg) look to be vectorizations made by a Commons contributor following a specification provided by the government... that gets into idea/expression divide territory, and I don't think I would delete those. The original license (on File:Hong Kong SAR Regional Emblem.svg, the source of the others) was marked as PD-author by User:Zscout370, and that should probably be restored. There may well be a copyright on the vectorization in some countries and that tag should not have been removed. The bulk of the files though are those radar maps and the road signs. - Keep The Hong Kong road signs are mostly derivatives from British road signs (as former Coloniser) which are under OGL, or PD-shape, or a combination of both. I ask they be speedily kept and any that may be ineligible for those licenses be reconsidered individually. I have no comment on the other images listed here, except the national emblem. - I suggest that we close this as an unsuitable mass nomination and split it into several individual nominations based on what the image shows:
- Maps.
- Satellite photos.
- Data plots. Most probably PD-ineligible.
- Road signs. Fry says that many can be kept under OGL by virtue of the signs being very similar to British signs. If so, fine. A few signs also seem to be below the threshold of originality.
- Bauhinia × blakeana symbols (such as the flag). I hope that we can keep these as some of the files are heavily used.
- Other images probably nominated individually.
- Also, can some images be migrated to PRC tags? I note that File:Cover of HKSAR e-Passport.jpg is very similar to File:People's Republic of China Biometric passport.jpg. - The flag and emblem of Hong Kong was endorsed at the Fourth Plenum of the Preparatory Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region[18], which the Preparatory Committee was under the National People's Congress of PRC. - Yeah, the deletions seem botched. The flag/emblem SVGs were created by Commons contributors and should be kept under their original license.
