- Keep Random people (not even Jimbo, apparently) on enwiki being uptight is not a reason for deletion, and the original link used on his talk page wasn't even to Commons. - If you look at the link I provided above, the IP posting it has admitted that the image is being used for harassment. Why does it matter who's talk page it's on? If it was on your talk page and you were the subject of the harassment I would still be nominating it for deletion. - Keep I have had other images deleted from Commons which were harassment, including those attacking Jimmy Wales. This is nowhere close. I note that NewYorkBrad is a contributor to Wikipediocracy, a site that has published material making a big joke of the word "faggot" and where Wikipedians have both been outed and maliciously ridiculed. It would be great if we stuck to simple basic ethical behaviour rather than trumping up stupidly thin claims of "harassment" and "sexual harassment" which only serve to demean real cases of concern rather that a daft cartoon parody that is only marginally more edgy than the Doctor Who Christmas special. --Fæ (talk) 19:43, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

- Keep. I can't believe so many are falling for the censorship song and dance here. It's a funny, well-drawn, CC-licensed artwork, so it belongs on Commons. It doesn't freaking matter who uploaded it. If you delete it and I upload it, will you want it deleted again because "somebody who had a grudge uploaded it once upon a time", or because "you wouldn't have heard of it if somebody with a grudge hadn't told you about it"? Think about it. This cartoon wasn't even made to be nasty, it's just an honest joke! If we want to be credible in hosting bitterly divisive political commentary and biting satire - which is necessary for us to decently cover the politics of any country - then we have to be committed to the same irreverence where people associated with Wikipedia are concerned. I should add that I did encounter mention of this at w:User talk:Jimbo Wales, and posting it there to the user's talk page on Christmas may indeed have been harassment, to be dealt with on Wikipedia; the difference is that posting it there did not increase the scope of free knowledge and did seem intended specifically to get a reaction from the person portrayed. Someone who is writing on those issues, either on WMF project, or off, may decide to use it to portray these subjects in a humorous way. - Technical 13: Rock, Paper, Cynic is listed as the winner of one of the 2014 w:Prix Aurora Awards. Artist Peter Chiykowski is referenced three times in a Wikipedia search. [1] We don't presently have an article on him, no, but we might be able to. The point is, Commons doesn't usually demand strong proof of educational usefulness, and it would be extremely counterproductive to do so. I mean, suppose this artist turns out to be the next Matt Groening -- do you think then he's going to fill out OTRS releases to free-license his content here? - It's one thing to want to delete the image as advertising for the website listed at the bottom, but to want to delete it because the modern day Santa Clause originated from Coke? - Delete I'm not convinced that this passes for educational. It doesn't appear to have been intended for use on any Wikimedia projects. I also have exactly zero confidence that the intention behind this upload was to facilitate educational discussion about Wikimedia fundraising and vandalism. - Fæ it's ok, I'm used to such nonsense from Smallbones now, But I am somewhat miffed as to a couple of things in relation to Smallbones. He told me to stay away from him on Commons a while ago because I raised queries in relation to one of his images. So you'd think he'd stay away from me. Also, you'd think that given Smallbones' own history of perpetrating real sexual harassment against others (it was Common knowledge in Russia), that he would be somewhat more understanding and less likely to bring out the harassment card against others with no evidence. - Lets be honest here, commons hardly has the corner on the market for persistently disruptive users. Wikipedia has quite a few as well including several within the admin ranks who will do anything to ensure that doesn't change. Russavia uploaded a joke image and if this was anyone else, no one would care and we wouldn't even have this discussion. In fact, if I hadn't seen it as a message on multiple places in Wikipedia with a link here I, nor a lot of other folks who voted here would even know about it. If anything is a disruption here, its the one who submitted this image for deletion just to be pointy. The fact that its mostly Wikipedia admins who voted to have russavia banned from ENWP voting to delete this image is, to me, extremely telling of the nature of the English Wikipedia's culture of editor oppression and vindictiveness by its admins. Its also pretty funny to me that so many people from the English Wikipedia are coming here to delete an image critical of them but they couldn't care less about all the porn on commons. - @Begoon, Thanks for the kind words but actually the only place I am banned is at the English Wikipedia. I can still edit every other wiki including Wikia. I am an admin on several so being banned from the english wikipedia because I was a threat to corrupt admins and their enablers doesn't really bother me too much. Aside from that, like I said above, this really doesn't have anything to do with Russavia to me and as I stated before the only reason others have a problem with this image is because of their feelings for Russavia. I could give a very long list of issues a lot more important on commons that this one image. This whole discussion is nothing more than a few folks from Wikipedia trying to suppress criticism.
- @Ceoil, if you are referring to me, its my standards of holding adminsn accountable for their actions and policy that got me into trouble. If my standards and morals were lower, I would still be editing and watching abusive admins abuse editors and their tools. - Keep I don't know the whole deal with russavia, nor do I think anyone should care - the image should be judged on its own merit, regardless of who uploaded it and who posted it on a talk page. I see a freely-licensed quality comic that is both humorous and created with playful intent. The only plausible reason I see for its deletion would be the question of its educational value, but comics themselves can be useful - to serve as examples of satire, the comic's subjects, and the comic strip itself if there ever is coverage of its creator on another Wikimedia project. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 23:21, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Watermark says "Exclusive for Wikipedia". While we should be thankful for the user being willing to provide those files to Wikipedia, it is still not a free license as required by Commons. Files here should be available to be used not only on Wikipedia, but other sister projects and even outside of Wikimedia projects in a free license.

Endless number of Flickr user's personal images (i.e. quite blatantly out of scope for Commons), ones of unacceptably poor quality or those whose lack of background detail renders them useless for Commons' purposes (even assuming they'd otherwise have been acceptable, which is questionable).
Unfortunately, while a number of images that were bulk-imported here are applicable to Commons, an incredibly high proportion blatantly aren't, but have been transferred anyway. Perhaps it would be useful to adopt a quality-over-quantity approach here.

- How far is this packaging above the threshold of (copyrightable) originality? The vast majority is plain text- I can't tell if *that* would be copyrightable based on its content (because I don't speak Chinese).
- The logo is hovering on the edge of Template:PD-shape and/or Template:PD-text, and while the plane image would be copyrightable if it was the sole focus of the image, that isn't the case here.
- Basically, I'm not saying that the nomination was *definitely* wrong. But I'm not sufficiently convinced that it's correct either. It would be useful if this was clarified.

- Keep:The cartoon character is a former politician and the manufacturer/company existed only from 1998 to 2000 for his campaign. The establishment of the manufacturer/company was for campaigns (votes and money) in 1998 and 2000. They stated closing the business was to avoid any conflict of interests after elected and then assumed office in May 2000. The copyright holder no longer exists and there is no need to protect the copyright anymore. Here is a book introduced the manufacturer/company with its life length: 1998-2000. The emblem can't be more than 31 years old since Dagon University was only founded in 1983. A series of files, each claimed as own work by uploader, however in correspondence (on my user talk page) about four files with no source, the uploader explained that the crests have been copied from various sources, making this series of flags entirely Derivative Works from unknown sources. The last three images (not flags) have also been copied from other places, and given the source own work. Incidentally four flags were put for no source, the uploader removed the no source tags which is why I looked at the rest of their gallery and am nominating the entire opus. Regarding the flags, they are derivative works of original flags, which are exposed in city halls and city councils, permanent public places, just remembering to Article 48 of the Brazilian copyright law, as explained here, may use the template Template:FoP-Brazil, if I understood well. Info Uploader removed from all files the DR notice and configured the files with FoP-Brazil.- @Renan ASR: {{FoP-Brazil}} is not a license. In all cases you must provide appropriate evidence to demonstrate either that all these files are in the public domain or that the copyright owners have released them under a suitable licence. For government works of Brazil the license {{PD-BrazilGov}} is decisive in most of the cases = public domain is a work published or commissioned by a Brazilian government (federal, state, or municipal) prior to 1983. All coat of arms (and flags) of Brazilian municipalities are created by municipal law. For e.g. File:Flag of Santo Antonio do Aracangua SP.jpg, flag of Brazilian municipalitiy pt:Santo Antônio do Aracanguá, {{PD-BrazilGov}} fails because the municipality was only created in 1991 (effective: 1993). Note that even municipalities emancipated before 1983 do sometimes significant updates to their municipal "corporate identity", saying flags and coat of arms.
- On the other hand (e.g.): The flag File:Flag of Mirassolandia SP.jpg which is based on the related coat of arms File:Brasão de Mirassolândia, SP.jpg, established per municipal law already in 1962, would work... Gunnex (talk) 11:49, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
