Category:StructuresMove to/Rename asCategory:Architectural structures
This category is specifically for architectural structures versus other types of structures (biological, social, organizational, etc.), so the name should reflect that.

I don't know but
 Support Architectural structures sounds good (and is the english interwiki link of german w:de:Bauwerk) Leo Miregalitheo (talk) 18:14, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose on the basis architectural structures are basically what is already containced in the "Architecture" category tree. We will still need a "Structures" category anyway. In my view the whole Architecture vs Structures hierarchy needs looking at because, in many cases, structures and buildings have become a sub-category of "Art" (under which "Architecture" is categorised) and difficult to find. Surely "Architecture" should be a sub-category of "Structures"? Sionk (talk) 10:50, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks to {{Topic in country}}, Structures in country has been categorized under Objects in country, which in turn is categorized under the country category. So you can get your desired category easily. Categorizing architecture under structures can be done but it goes against our convention of categorizing concrete elements under abstract topics. @Sionk: You have a good point if that were true, but I'm not sure it is. Category:Architecture is the entire field of work, including the discipline, concepts, people, and so forth in the field of architecture that are not structures. Category:Architectural structures should live under Category:Architecture as a sub-category specific to the structures themselves. I agree with Sbb1413 insofar as while it is fair to consider the concrete as the parent or the child, we have more generally (not universally) gone with the concrete being a child of the concept, especially in cases where the concrete exists as a result of the concept, so I would keep 'architectural structures' under 'architecture', not the other way around. •  Oppose and suggest alt of "Buildings and structures" which places it in it's proper context and is comparable with the Wiki cat structure. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:55, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    That name makes no sense; buildings are structures. Besides, a category name like that would be a clear violation of the Simplicity Principle and Selectivity Principle. There is no reason to mimic poor English wiki category decisions. Josh (talk) 18:48, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mild support, since I think we cannot rename all the subcats of Structures by country (or similar) to Architectual structures by country without disruption. Instead, we should create parallel "architectural structures" categories to gradually reduce the pressure of more ambiguous "structures". Similar transitions can be done with any topic category. Names like "buildings and structures" are disallowed under the simplicity principle of COM:CAT. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 17:11, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sbb1413 You are right that there are a significant number of affected categories, so I think your idea might work well enough, so I would be okay with that. I would propose that in any case where the 'structures' category exists solely to be a parent for the 'architectural structures' category, the 'structures' category can be redirected or deleted. Josh (talk) 18:57, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Joshbaumgartner, Crouch, Swale, Strakhov, Leo Miregalitheo, Sionk, and Laurel Lodged: I think there's a good consensus to rename this category to "architectural structures". The oppose !votes don't provide any valid reasons for opposing the renaming proposal, instead they are suggesting to do something different. Also, there's a past consensus to avoid names like "Buildings and structures", and the Simplicity Principle and Selectivity Principle strengthens the consensus, so I don't think that consensus would change anytime soon. Is my analysis correct? If so, we can close this discussion and move on. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 02:51, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sbb1413 I agree with your analysis. Josh (talk) 04:41, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
