Suggested move to Category:Images from magazines
[edit]Opinion: I think that the move "Category:Images from journals" to "Category:Images from magazines" is the wrong move. However, the "Category:Images from journals and magazines" might be better. "Category:Images from scientific journals" could make an worthwhile subset. Snowmanradio (talk) 22:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- I think Category:Images from magazines would not be appropriate for the scholarly subset, though it could be for the rest of the items in here. Instead of Category:Images from scientific journals, I would go for Category:Media from scholarly journals, so as to include multimedia files and humanities/ social sciences. -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 10:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

A bot to auto-categorize media with this category's subcats
[edit]Is there a bot that could auto-categorize media (images mostly) with this category's subcategories? Or a proposal for such somewhere?
I don't know if this category is useful but it seems like most images from journals nowadays are not added to its subcats.
It would be a waste of resources to have humans go through uploads and tag images manually, instead a bot could just check the source link and add it a subcategory of this cat. This may require scraping to check which journal name it is or simply to compare the link OR DOI to a database and retrieving the journal name from there.
I also found that Category:Media from Nature Publishing Group journals misses subcategories for many large Nature journals and the Category:Nature (journal) in it does not (or mostly not?) contain any images from the Nature studies (it should be removed from this cat).
This is probably not the right place to ask about this, should I ask about the bot at VillagePump? Prototyperspective (talk) 09:44, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
