Canadian coffee shop chain Tim Hortons opened a coffee shop at a military base in Kandahar, to offer Canadian troops a reminder of home. Approximately 60 percent of the customers were Canadians. The shop was closed in early December of 2011, and was regarded as symbolic of the withdrawal, on schedule, of Canada's combat troops.
