Note: Also Slaapkranz / Slaapkrantz (Dutch) in sources about the Boer War, and sometimes used in the same sense as Surrender Hill. Mothuleng / Motouleng cave (Afrikaans: Salpeterkrans) is situated nearby on the farm Verliesfontein, and is associated with animist divination practices. Not identical with Brandwater Basin, as it is drained by the Caledon and its tributaries, rather than the Brandwater River.
