English: Odeon cinema, London Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Built on the site of the Alpha Picture Palace, which was opened in 1904 by Arthur Melbourne-Cooper, the first cinema in Hertfordshire. Current building erected 1931 as the Capitol, with interior designed by Robert Cromie. Enlarged 1934, sold to Odeon, renamed the Odeon 1945. Divided into a 3-screen complex 1973, increased to 4 screens 1988, closed 1995, disused for almost 20 years. Sold 2009, restoration to a single-screen cinema begun 2013, reopened as the Odyssey Cinema in December 2014.
